After being disappointed with last year's model, for 2023 MSI has given its thin-and-light gaming laptop line a complete overhaul and the result is fantastic. Not only does the Stealth 14 Studio feature a stunning new magnesium-aluminum chassis, but it also got a spec bump and a ton of handy additions like the physical shutter for the webcam. You can choose between an FHD+ 165Hz IPS display or an optional QHD+ 240Hz panel, with an Intel Core i7 chip and up to an RTX 4070 GPU. Despite its strong performance, the Stealth 14 Studio weighs just 3.75 pounds, which is almost half a pound lighter than similarly sized rivals. MSI even upgraded the system's battery life, which now lasts an hour longer than before. The only small downsides are a low-res 720p webcam, a slightly large chin and thermals that can get a bit toasty under load. But perhaps the best part is that if you don't fancy a 14-inch gaming laptop, the Stealth Studio is available in a 16-inch model as well.

While it is nice to see a company like MSI entering the realm of 14-inch gaming laptops with the Stealth 14 Studio, it is, unfortunately, far from a decent first attempt. I understand why the company went with Intel’s 13th Gen mobile processors, and as powerful as CPUs like the Core i7-13700H is, it has been proven on more than one occasion to be less than stellar when it comes to power efficiency. Hopefully, and assuming MSI is willing to continue developing the Stealth 14 Studio into the next generation, the brand will go the way of its rivals and maybe adopt better, more efficient performance-per-watt processors from Intel’s red rival. Of course, if it does continue down the path of the blue chipmaker, one can only hope that Meteor Lake will be exponentially better in that department and based on what we’ve able to see, it sure as heck looks promising.

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V strikes the perfect balance between performance, portability, and productivity. While it excels in many areas, there are some notable omissions. We would seriously have loved to see better HDR support and a better webcam certainly wouldn’t go amiss. Plus the lack of an SD card slot seems very strange for a laptop that is targeted to content creators who rely on such features. However, the laptop’s impressive performance compensates for most of these shortcomings. For gamers and on-the-go content creators, the MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V, in the configuration we tested, proves more than sufficient. We neither saw any dropped frames, or screen tearing, nor did we face any issues in scrubbing through 4K timelines when working on video projects.

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio isn’t the best of the lot and has some room for improvement, and I am confident the company will look into the feedback. Those looking for a compact 14-inch gaming notebook should also consider options like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, or the upcoming Lenovo Legion Slim 5. In fact, the model that I reviewed is listed at Rs 1,94,990, which is in the vicinity of the 2023 Zephyrus G14 featuring the same RTX 4060 GPU, but an AMD CPU at its heart. That said, the Stealth 14 Studio comes across as a good refresh in terms of design when compared to older MSI notebooks, even though the overall finish and quality could’ve been better. The display looks excellent and performs well for all kinds of applications. Even the performance is quite adequate considering it is a small 14-inch notebook. Overall, MSI has made an honest attempt at making a portable yet powerful notebook for a wide range of audiences, and for that, the Stealth 14 Studio deserves consideration.

You'll find a versatility in the MSI Stealth 14 Studio that isn’t matched by many content-creator laptops we've tested of late. The small frame allows you to (potentially) work from anywhere with an outlet and, if noise isn’t a concern, run your most demanding of programs, thanks to some powerful hardware inside. The MSI Stealth 14 Studio is an attractive and powerful option if you want a portable laptop to be the center of your content work setup, and it comes from a brand trusted by our readers, but its compact size works against it in some areas, particularly battery life and a tighter keyboard than we'd like.

The Stealth 14 Studio is an almost complete about-face for MSI's thin-and-light gaming line. It's got a striking new design, updated internals and a handful of welcome quality-of-life upgrades – all in a chassis that's easy to carry around; I've already made multiple cross-country trips with it and it hasn't let me down yet. In fact, the Stealth 14 Studio has basically everything I look for in a great all-rounder – well, except for maybe an OLED screen or an SD card slot (though you do get one on the larger 16-inch model). But if those aren’t deal breakers for you, MSI has delivered a system offering a stunning build and solid performance for gaming or anything else you might need.

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio is a do-it-all, content-creation, doc-pushing mainstream laptop that packs potent specs in an angular-styled lightweight design. It does a great job at whatever tasks you throw at it and can go from office work to home gaming battle stations with ease. The only thing holding this great laptop from earning our Editor’s Choice award is the battery life, which is the MacBook Pro 14’s strong suit along with its powerful performance but can become seriously pricey depending on the configuration. Overall, the Stealth 14 Studio is a fantastic laptop I would recommend to creatives at every skill level, but just be sure to stay near an outlet.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
