Reviews for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 OLED GA403UV

Boasting a beautiful blend of power and portability, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a stellar laptop for 1080p gaming. Any complaints feel rather inconsequential given it does so many things well. Sure, the RTX 4060 version could benefit from more RAM, and the otherwise attractive aluminium chassis gets quite hot. On the other hand, these minor slights are easy to mitigate. Anyone desperately needing more RAM is likely in the market for the RTX 4070 model anyway. Sporting one of the best gaming laptop designs I’ve seen, the Zephyrus G14 is a reliable all-around companion for swapping between spreadsheets and the latest games.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA403) gets a classy redesign and a 2.8K OLED display for 2024. It has the new AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU with AI and your choice of NVIDIA RTX 4060 or 4070 dedicated graphics. This year’s G14 is slimmer, lighter and more attractive with a CNC aluminum casing. This gaming and creative apps laptop has an RGB keyboard, larger trackpad, Windows Hello IR camera and an ample selection of ports. It competes with the Razer Blade 14, HP Omen Transcend 14, 14” MacBook Pro and the Dell XPS 14.

The ASUS Zephyrus G14 is available from multiple retail outlets including ASUS.com and Amazon, but this particular review sample build is exclusive to Best Buy and is available now for $1,599. That's not bad for a gaming laptop, especially one with a discrete GPU. It's certainly on the high end of your "average, everyday laptop" but if you want a machine with some extra power, it's easy to imagine that price being on the cheap side. For that, you get a high-quality build, a lovely typing experience, and some of the best speakers you're going to hear on a laptop. Granted, that's a low bar, but you will still enjoy the sound on this laptop immensely. Add to that the understated design that belongs in a boardroom, as much as it belongs at a "Fortnite" tournament. Once you open the laptop, that's when the fun starts. The backlit keyboard is customizable and delightful.

If having a gaming laptop that’s barely even noticeable in your backpack sounds enticing, then it’s hard to overlook the 2024 ROG Zephyrus G14. If offers both extreme portability and mighty performance. But, based on its middling battery performance, you’ll still want to carry a charger with you on your gaming journeys.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is worth it if you want a sleek, thin-and-light gaming laptop that can be disguised as a laptop for work by day — while unleashing its true, beastly powers by night for triple-A gaming. However, it's worth noting that its rival, the HP Victus, is typically on sale for less than $1,000. It packs the same Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU and plays Cyberpunk 2077 at an average of 95 frames per second, which is only slightly behind the ROG Zephyrus G14's 102 frames-per-second score. Still, the ROG Zephyrus G14 undeniably has the better chassis, with a MacBook Pro-esque, premium design. Its $1,599 price tag gets you an uptick in performance, a slim, featherweight design, top-notch speakers, and an awesome keyboard. What's not to love?

Asus' ROG Zephyrus G14 is a fantastic laptop for most people. Geeks like myself will appreciate the customizable RGB lighting and the hardware that is good enough for most gaming sessions. Professionals will appreciate the stylish design as well as the long battery life. If I had to pick one group that would like this laptop the most, it would be the professionals crew. The RTX 4060 GPU is at the low end of the series so its performance will disappoint gamers looking for raw power. Plus, the bloatware cuts too much into the SSD, limiting the amount of big files you can have at a time. The Zephyrus G14 starts at $1,600. My review unit in particular costs $1,900, which is certainly not cheap. Additionally, there isn't much you can do to lower the price tag, as the customization options only add to the laptop. The bottom line: the Zephyrus G14 is worth the price, but if you want something cheaper, check out ZDNET's best budget gaming laptops for recommendations.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
