We've already reported on mini PCs that are suitable for edge computing. Most of these devices are designed for industrial settings, but they can also be interesting for regular consumers with corresponding use cases. In contrast to most other modern consumer-focused mini PCs, computers like the new MS-C927 offer a COM port that can be used to connect to certain industrial machines. Consequently, the MSI MS-C927 can be used to monitor said machinery over a network.
According to the data sheet, this new model is available with an Intel Core Ultra 7 165U and Intel Core Ultra 5 135U processor. It offers two DDR5 RAM slots for up to 96GB of memory running at up to 5,600MHz. Moreover, this MSI mini PC can run two 4K monitors at up to 60Hz via DisplayPort. HDMI or USB Type-C are not available in this case. On the back, there are two USB-A 3.2 ports, which can be used to hook up accessories or peripherals. Network access is provided via two Ethernet ports with 2.5 and 1Gbit/s, respectively.
Additionally, the full-size M.2-2880 slot relies on four PCIe 4.0 lanes, while the two shorter M.2 2242 and 2230 slots each have just a single lane at their disposal. These slots can be used to install a WiFi module, the needed antennas are preinstalled in the MS-C927 mini PC. The system can be powered with 12 or 24 volts. It’s passively cooled and therefore entirely silent, and it can be used in ambient temperatures between 14 and 140 °F. Lastly, the new mini PC is protected against vibrations which can occur in some factories. MSI hasn’t revealed an official price tag or release date thus far.
