Computex 2013 | MSI Launches Updated GE, GT and GX Notebooks

Teaser
MSI has announced updated GE40, GE60, GE70, GX60, GX70 notebooks as well as the GT60 3K Edition. In addition to revised visual details and surfaces, the notebooks also use the new Intel Haswell CPUs.

In addition to the GS70 Stealth, MSI is exhibiting its revised models of the GE40, GE60, GE70, GX60, GX70 notebooks at Computex 2013, as well as the GT60 3K Edition. The GE series chassis's are based on the previous generation. What's new is the notebook lid design and some aluminum design highlights.

In terms of core hardware components, MSI will offer the new GE-series notebooks with Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M or GeForce GT 750M graphics cards, Intel quad-core processors from the new Haswell generation, SSD "Super RAID" and matte displays. The illuminated blue keyboard is now complemented by a significantly enlarged touch pad to the side of the notebook.

In addition, MSI has done some adjustments to the performance. The GE models are equipped with CPUs such as the Intel Core i7-4702MQ Haswell processor with 2.2 GHz core and 3.2 GHz turbo clocks. All models in the GE40, GE60 and GE70 series are available right away starting from €1,200.

The MSI GX60 and GX70 have the same layout as the GT60 and GT70, respectively. However, instead of core components from Intel, the GX series uses AMD hardware, such as the A10-5750M APU with HD 8970M graphics. According to MSI the performance improvement is in the range of 15 to 20 percent compared to the predecessor.

We are excited to see how this combination fares in our review, which is scheduled for the coming weeks. The A10 APU was a bottleneck in the previous generation and the GPU couldn't quite reach its full potential.

As for the GT60 3K Edition, MSI uses the same chassis as the current version - without the VGA port but with 2x mini-DisplayPort (DP) and HDMI. The display offers an impressive WQHD+ panel with 2,880 x 1,620 panel that can extend to another three external Full HD displays to generate a massive display area. At the core of the GT60 3K Edition is an Intel Core i7-4930MX Extreme Edition and a GeForce GTX 780M, both of which are overclocked.

MSI tells us that the GT60 3K Edition is expected to launch in July. The manufacturer also plans to offer the GT60 3K in a "Dragon Edition" with red surfaces. Also included with this model is a mouse and backpack in the red dragon design.
