Around seven or so years later, MSI has finally found it fit to bring the Lightning Z brand back from the dead. The GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z gaming GPU is about as insane as it can get, and is more than certain to command a price tag that is equally bonkers, considering that MSI only plans on making 1,300 units.
This behemoth of a GPU will feature a built-n AIO to cool its guts, packing a 300 mm radiator with a massive 8-inch display slapped on top, allowing the user to display whatever they desire. As is to be expected, the card utilizes two of the infamous 12v 2x6 connectors which can allow for up to 1,600 watts of power. The standard 600-watt RXT 5090 (Aorus Master ICE curr. $3,949 on Amazon) has suffered from serious power connector failures, which might rightfully make people worried about the Lightning Z as well.
If that wasn't enough, the MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z will also boast the capability of switching to a BIOS with an obscene 2,500 W power limit for maximum overclocking potential. Unsurprisingly, overclockers have already made use of this feature to push the card to an eye-watering 3.74 GHz - with the aid of some much needed liquid nitrogen, of course. Additional details and specifications of the MSI RTX 5090 Lightning Z are as follows:
- 21,760 CUDA cores at 2730 MHz boost clock, 2775 "Extreme Performance" clock
- 32 GB of GDDR7 memory (28 GBPS, 512-bit bus)
- Triple DisplayPort 2.1b, single HDMI 2.1b
- 40-phase power delivery
- Companion app for monitoring and control
The MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z will arrive later next month, and as mentioned earlier, production will be limited to 1,300 units only.
