Reviews for the MSI GS70-2QE-062RU

80% MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro Red Edition review
Source: Trusted Reviews English Archive.org version
MSI’s latest laptop impresses in several key departments. Its GTX 970M is one of the more powerful mobile cores we’ve seen, and it’s bolstered by lots of memory, great storage and a bright, rich screen. It’s got punchy speakers, and an excellent keyboard. MSI’s machine doesn’t have the raw power of the Gigabyte, but its GTX 970M is still an exceptional GPU – and it’s backed up by strong components elsewhere, a great keyboard and reasonable thermal performance. It’s expensive, but the Stealth Pro is a well-balanced machine that excels in several key areas. If you’ve got the cash, this red-hot notebook is an excellent gaming portable.

Comment

Model: Claimed as the thinnest and lightest gaming laptop, the MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro is a powerful gaming solution that weighs in at just 2.7 kg. Alike all MSI gaming laptops, the MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro comes in full black and sports the familiar full-size SteelSeries keyboard with LED backlight and the SteelSeries engine, which allows the user to customize every key. The display cover is simple and elegant with brushed aluminium and a fancy gaming series logo. Display on the laptop is a 17 inch FHD anti-glare panel which produces superb image quality.

The MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro's hardware consists of a 4th generation Intel Core-i7 4710HQ clocked at 2.5 GHz, up to 16 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M 3 GB GDDR5 GPU. This makes the MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro a beast of a gaming laptop. The ability to pack in up to 768 GB Super RAID 2 and 1 TB HDD, make it a dream for many portable PC gamers out there.

Other features include Killer DoubleShot Pro Gb LAN, Killer DoubleShot Pro 11ac WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0, 4 USB 3.0 ports, 2 mini-Display ports and a dual cooling solution. The audio quality is superb with Dynaudio with woofer and Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2 technology. There is a 5-cell Li-Polymer battery rated at 5400 mAh powering the laptop.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M:

Second fastest high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

4710HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.5 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

17.30":

This large display size is used for laptops which are mainly intended for an use on a desk.

Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

2.7 kg:

In former years, this weight was representative for laptops with a 14-16 inch display-diagonal. Nowadays, 17 inch laptops weigh less than that.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI), is a Taiwan based computer hardware manufacturer since 1986 best known for desktop computer motherboards. MSI also designs and manufactures graphics cards, barebone PCs, notebook computers, networking products, servers, multimedia, consumer electronics, and storage devices. MSI, as most Taiwanese computer manufacturers, sells products on OEM/ODM basis. It also sells products worldwide based on its own brand name "MSI". The market share of laptops with the MSI brand is rather low.

MSI is not present in the smartphone market. As a laptop manufacturer, MSI has a medium market share and is not among the Top 10 global manufacturers. The ratings of MSI laptops are above average in the tests (as of 2016).

84.5%: This rating should be considered to be average. This is because the proportion of notebooks which have a higher rating is approximately equal to the proportion which have a lower rating.
