Overall this is a sleek laptop with plenty to commend it, however it consistently falls short of the performance you get from the Gigabyte Aero 15X. Ordinarily we wouldn’t compare two laptops in the conclusion of a review but the fact is these two models have a huge number of features in common. We do not think Gigabyte did anything especially clever with the Aero 15X, which suggests that MSI might have got something wrong.

The MSI GS65 8RF-078 Stealth Thin is one of the GS series, which has been one of the benchmarks for ultra-thin gaming laptops. Power users and gamers will find one of the most powerful 15.6 "notebooks stylishly packaged in the ultra-compact 14" model case. This is made possible by the extremely narrow screen frame that encloses the nimble 144 Hz screen, which is a unique innovation in the mobile gaming sector. With a large 15.6-inch screen, the compact notebook can hardly be packaged for anything more compact with a housing height of less than 18 mm and just 1.8 kg on the scale, the GS65 Stealth Thin comfortably accompanies the user throughout the day. Its hinge system, which allows an opening angle of 180°, is the only part of this model that is plastic. It keeps the screen in the selected position during normal use of the laptop. Despite the compact aluminum housing, the new generation of Intel Core i7 eight-core processor and the fast GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q graphics deliver top-notch performance. It has 16 GB of DDR4 RAM at 2,400 MHz and a 512 GB SSD with an M.2 interface that is compatible with NVME. The PCI Express SSD ensures rapid system and program starts. The 144 Hz true-color screen ensures absolutely fluid performance in the game and allows an unrestrained response. Thanks to its matte finish and a good level of brightness, it would be possible to use this screen outdoors. It also offers an excellent level of contrast, very high color fidelity (far exceeds 100 % of the sRGB color space), and some angles of relatively broad vision. The cooling system of the GS65, which is called Cooler Boost Trinity, consists of three fans that offer a 45 % higher air displacement according to the manufacturer. It will make a little noise during light usage and it will raise its speed under load, where the noise will be clearly audible. The high capacity of its integrated battery of 4 cells with 82 Wh allows the GS65 to reach an autonomy of close to 5 hours under light usage, which is quite long for a gaming laptop model with these characteristics. The SteelSeries gaming keyboard sets the stage with programmable single button illumination. Using an included application, it is possible to individually configure the backlight color of each of the keys, as well as define effects and animations in the keyboard illumination. Data transfer to external media is achieved using Thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.1 Gen 2 at the highest data rates. It has very good networking capabilities, being compatible with Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 5.0. The MSI GS65 8RF-078 Stealth Thin is a high spec-ed laptop made for gamers. Gaming laptops and slim builds don't go hand-in-hand. Mainly, it's because of the size of the GPUs and also the number of the cooling fans that are needed to keep the laptop calm and cool during its operations. However, it looks like MSI has finally broken that barrier with their latest gaming laptop, the MSI GS65 8RF-019DE Stealth Thin. Like its name, the MSI GS65 8RF-019DE Stealth Thin is well, really thin. The fully-gaming capable laptop is pretty compact for the power it packs under its hood; it measures only 17.7 mm thin and weighs just 1.8 kg. This stealth thin laptop has a lightweight aluminum housing that uses Mg-Li alloy for increased stability. Next, let's take a look under the bonnet of the MSI GS65 8RF-019DE Stealth Thin. The slim and compact laptop runs on an i7 8750H processor with a generous 16 GB of RAM and a powerful GeForce GTX 1070 with 8 GB of GDDR5 VRAM. It also has a super fast 512 GB SSD as internal storage. The combination of the listed hardware is more than sufficient for the gamers to run all current and upcoming games in high or ultrahigh settings effortlessly. The Stealth Thin laptop also comes with a SteelSeries RGB keyboard that is fully-optimized for gamers. It is worth mentioning that the Stealth Thin also comes with a 15.6-inch 144 Hz Full HD display with a 7 ms response time. The fast response time gives the gamers the ability to play their games at 144 frames per second. The monitor also has thin bezels to give way to a larger surface area for display. The colors are vivid, and the color reproductions are also very accurate. As for build quality, even though the Stealth Thin is made from aluminum, the chassis feels more like plastic. While there is not much to complain about build quality, it is not perfect. Some parts of the laptop, like the keyboard and the touchpad, feel loose whenever pressure is applied. However, the overall look of the laptop screams nothing but luxury and premium. Other than that, the laptop comes with three USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, an HDMI port, a Thunderbolt port, a Mini DisplayPort, a Kensington Lock and separate headphone and mic jacks. The Stealth Thin also deals with heat very efficiently. The cooling system has three fans and four heat pipes, and the heat management is pretty good overall. There is little doubt that the MSI GS65 8RF-019DE Stealth Thin is one of the most impressive gaming laptops out there. Besides the obvious powerful hardware that it packs, and contrary to the traditional outrageously-designed bulky gaming laptops, the subtle and minimalistic design of the Stealth Thin gives it an edge with gamers who also want to use their laptops for other use than gaming. The long awaited RTX models are coming. Will this change the way we are gaming? Definitely, yes, but on the other hand, there are still a few things missing.

Let’s start with the good parts. First of all, after a long wait, we are able to use Nvidia’s RTX graphic cards in laptops as well. The biggest advantage is, of course, that performance is way better now. The bad part? Well, since they are expensive, some cuts had to be made here and there. If you compare old GTX 1070/1080 laptop models with new RTX 2070/2080 laptops that are available, one thing in particular is common to them: Most of the time, there are no 4K screens. Now, this is a bummer in my opinion, because we were always told or at least reading in articles that RTX is mainly made for 4K gaming. Of course, you can use an external monitor to get that going, but hey, where is the gaming experience that I was promised?

Since MSI can be considered as the top gaming laptop manufacturer amongst all others, it is also the first one to jump on the RTX train and provide all new models with RTX graphics cards. So, the GS65 series is one of them. Is there something really different from last year’s models besides having an RTX graphics card? Well, to be honest, nope. We still have Intel 8th Gen. processors, 16 GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and Thunderbolt, which is nice. This is all good. Since this is MSI, I can not criticise the build quality or overall haptics much. This model is pretty lightweight, just 1.9 kg. Considering all the power it has, boy, it is a no-brainer to buy. Price-wise, I have to say, compared to last year’s models, which are still available for purchase, it is something that you should not miss.

Now, should you wait or really go and buy? There are rumours, as always, around Intel’s 9th Gen. processors, but to be honest with you, from 7th-Gen. processors on, there was not much focus on performance, just power consumption. This is a gaming rig, you will always need a power outlet nearby. Keeping this fact in mind, there is no reason to not buy this laptop. You can play all the games that are available in very high settings. For how long? I would say for the next 3-4 years. Only because this model has Max Q variation.

If you are really looking for something to replace your current gaming setup, you should go for it. It is not cheap, for sure, but it will be worth the money.

With the affordability factor out of the way, the GS65 appeals to the inner 9-year-old while keeping along with your 30-year-old public persona at a gamers meet or eSports event. MSI has shown that it is possible for a gaming laptop to be beautiful and practical at the same time -- two factors that gaming laptops mostly evade. And while its seductive design may keep on drawing eyeballs, it doesn't skimp on performance even by an iota. Nvidia’s Turing GPUs are starting to take over mobile gaming laptops; especially, the high-end ones. Now, compared to Pascal GPUs, there is definitely a performance gain, but is using them in every model possible? I find it a bit of an overkill. Just like the usage of the RTX 2080 Max-Q here. When you look at the case, it is very easy that nothing has changed from last year's model. Everything is the same, except the hardware. Now, it is the latest tech in an old body, which is by the way super thin and very light for a very high-end gaming laptop. Just 1.9 kg! So much power, very wow. Of course here comes the but. When you have something so powerful, yet so thin; thermodynamics gets into play. You need air flow, you need good coolers. What does the GS65 have in its thin case? Heatpipes and some fans. Do they perform well? Well, it depends. Meaning in terms of cooling, yes they do their job, but with a compromise, fan noise. Playing games can be a bit disturbing, if you don't have headphones with you all the time. You have the option to reduce the fan power of course through software, but then things get a bit hot. Other than that everything is good. I don’t think that I have to mention performance here. Because, well, you can’t currently get anything better than this. Actually, you can, but in a bigger case, so that does not count. This is one of the best laptops that you can get in this form. Period. Price? That is something else, we don’t want to talk about. It is definitely certain that the GS65-8SG is not a budget laptop and it will hurt you financially. Is it worth it? That is a question I cannot answer. Because it totally depends on your preferences. If you like the opportunity to be mobile and carry your rig wherever you go, then it is for you. Keep in mind, with this case you have to give up the chance to do future upgrades. Then the other option is buying a desktop machine, which is a totally different experience. Speaking of mobility. For gaming laptops, mobility means just being able to carry them around, not playing games far away from a power outlet. The same applies here. Even though the device has a 80 Wh battery, with RTX 2080 Max-Q and 8750H processor, it will only take 3-4 hours tops to drain the full battery. So, keep an eye on that. Overall, if you have the money and like playing games in very high details, well go buy it. I can not criticize the device that much, since it is really a high-end device and MSI apparently really tries to make its users happy. Overall, at Rs 2,09,990, it does burn a significant hole in your pocket but if you are looking for performance and heavy gaming without compromising portability, this might be a great option for you. Nevertheless, it is gonna face fierce competition in this price range and in case you are willing to check out other options then Asus Zephyrus S is a great option to check out as well. MSI GS65 Stealth (2019) Review: A Refresh In All The Right Places

As far as thin and light, game-ready notebooks go, MSI’s new GS65 Stealth is, in my personal opinion, in a class of its own. As the titles states, the hardware refreshes are in the places that count, but clearly loses out in other areas. It beats the competition with its 240Hz refresh rate display, but again, it seems a bit excessive, especially when 144Hz would more than suffice.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan. MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q: Efficient high end graphics card for thin and light laptops based on the same GP104 chip as the normal GTX 1070 for laptops but at slower clock speeds. Offers a approx. 15% lower performance but much lower power consumption.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q: High-End laptop graphics card based on the TU104 chip with 2,944 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. Runs at reduced clock speeds compared to a laptop RTX 2080 to achieve a much lower power consumption.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q: High-End laptop graphics card based on the TU106 chip with 2,304 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. Offers reduced clock speeds to achieve a much lower power consumption.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile: Mid range to high end laptop graphics card based on the Turing architecture with raytracing features and 1,920 shaders. Compared to the similar named desktop card it offers reduced clock rates.
