MIUI 12 rollout for third-batch Xiaomi devices such as the Mi Mix 2, Mi Max 3, and Redmi S2 reportedly in progress
We already reported about Xiaomi announcing the conclusion of the MIUI 12 rollout for second-batch smartphones, and it was recently confirmed that Redmi Note 9 smartphones will be seeing an update soon. Now it appears to be time for third-batch devices to start receiving the software update, with the Chinese OEM obviously focusing on variants in its domestic market first before moving further afield.
Some devices that have been part of the reported third-batch list have already started receiving beta and stable builds in China. For instance, PiunikaWeb has detailed instances of the Mi Max 3, Mi Mix 2, Mi Note 3, and Redmi S2 all receiving MIUI 12 in various forms, with the Chinese variants of the smartphones receiving the update earlier than generally expected. In fact, it was believed round 3 of the MIUI 12 rollout was likely to begin in October (especially for global, Indian, European, etc. models), but it seems Xiaomi could be ready to press on now in late September.
The third batch of Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones consists of the following devices:
- Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
- Xiaomi Mi 6X
- Redmi 8, Redmi 8A
- Redmi 7, Redmi 7A
- Xiaomi Mi CC9E
- Xiaomi Mi Note 3
- Xiaomi Mi Max 3
- Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 Youth Edition
- Redmi S2
- Redmi Note 8
- Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi 6 Pro
- Redmi Note 5
It’s important to remember that this is not an official announcement from Xiaomi, but there are plenty of signs that have been spotted that indicate the third-batch MIUI 12 rollout is ready to begin in earnest. Based on the software rollout over the last two phases, owners of Xiaomi or Redmi smartphone included in the third-batch list should be prepared to be patient as the process will take several weeks at least.
