Lucid has introduced its RangeXchange feature via an OTA update. This allows existing Lucid Air owners to share their electric sedan's massive battery with other drivers in a pinch. The feature requires a V2V adaptor, and Lucid claims it can add up to 40 miles (~64 km) of range per hour, outpacing all but the Cupra Born for external power output.

Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of the shift to software-defined vehicles (SDVs) that's accompanied the electric vehicle revolution is the ability to add features and tweak the driver experience. While some brands, like Audi, BMW, and Tesla, have used this functionality to sell their consumers additional features, others, like Rivian, have used OTA updates more magnanimously.

This week, Lucid announced that it is rolling out its RangeXchange vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging function, which the company claims is capable of delivering a rather impressive 9.6 kW of power to other EVs via a RangeXchange adaptor. This is around the same output as many Level 2 AC home chargers, and Lucid claims that the feature can deliver between 24 and 40 miles per hour when charging an EV.

Lucid also touts the Wunderbox bi-directional charging hardware as being capable of V2L and V2G capabilities, which it may introduce at a later stage.

Given that current Lucid Air vehicles have anywhere up to 118 kWh of battery capacity, it's arguably the most appropriate EV to feature V2V charging, although it certainly isn't the only one capable of outputting significant amounts of power.

Other EV brands, like Hyundai, Kia, and Volkswagen offer vehicle-to-load charging, which could theoretically be used to charge other EVs. However, the only EVs on the market right now that can match the Lucid Air's 9.6 kW output are the Ford F-150 Lightning, with its On Board Power and the Cupra Born EV, that can deliver 11 kW of power via its V2L functionality.
