New Lucid Air Pure becomes the most energy-efficient production EV
Last year, Tesla's CEO Elon Musk predicted that some of the most popular electric car startups in America - Rivian and Lucid - are on their way to go bankrupt.
Since then, Rivian has announced a $5 billion partnership with Volkswagen, while the maker of luxury electric sedans Lucid keeps being bankrolled by Saudi Arabia, and just unveiled its 2025 Air Pure, the most efficient EV in production.
Lucid has long been a champion of efficiency, but its base Air Pure model can now travel up to 420 miles on a charge with the same 84 kWh battery. This means it uses only 1 kWh to go 5 miles, or it can cover the distance from Los Angeles to San Francisco on a single charge with some left to spare.
The 5 miles per kWh mark is achieved with Lucid's efficient heat pump, previously reserved for the more expensive models. Needless to say, only the Air Pure hits that vehicle efficiency record since it is the RWD model in the roster, so it is lighter than the rest of Lucid's trims.
The rest of the upgrades include a new infotainment system chipset that is 3x faster and has 2x more operating memory than before, as well as the DreamDrive Premium driver-assist system with 3D Surround View Monitoring that now comes standard for the Pure as well.
It is worth noting that the top Air Pure efficiency ranking has been achieved on the new, more stringent EPA range estimate tests, boding well for the future cars coming from the brand, including the 2025 Gravity, Lucid's first SUV.
