Lots of power below the hood, good battery life, digital pen - Asus ZenBook Flip 15 UX563FD in review
The Asus Zenbook Flip 15 UX563FD is a powerful multimedia convertible and comes in the 15.6-inch form factor. A four-core Core i7-10510U and a dedicated GeForce GTX 1050 Max-Q GPU provide the necessary computing power. Both the processor and the dedicated graphics chip are able to consistently run at high speeds. For the CPU, this only applies while on mains.
Apart from the CPU and GPU, the RAM is soldered as well, which makes it impossible to upgrade it. Asus has Zenbook Flip models with 8 or 16 GB of RAM on offer. Here, we would have liked to see a more future-proof 32 GB option.
Asus has wrapped up the technology side of the Flip 15 in a sleek metal chassis, which is fairly rigid. The base unit can barely be twisted and the lid resists twisting entirely. The 4K IPS touchscreen display shines with a good contrast ratio, viewing angles, brightness and - thanks to Pantone validation - great colors. It responds to both fingers and the included digital pen.
Unfortunately, the UX563FD does not offer a Thunderbolt 3 port. Instead, Asus has only equipped the Zenbook Flip with one USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, which can only be used for connecting peripherals. It does not support the DisplayPort via USB Type-C feature.
