A new development board is available from Lilygo, the T-Zigbee. The motherboard is compatible with a wide range of smart home standards, including Zigbee 3.0, Apple HomeKit and Thread. The T-Zigbee has dual MCUs, a TLSR8258 ultra-low-power chip and an ESP32-C3 chip, alongside programmable buttons and LEDs.

Lilygo has released the T-Zigbee, a cheap smart home development board compatible with Zigbee 3.0, HomeKit and Thread. You can connect to the board using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

The board is primarily powered by an Espressif ESP32-C3 processor with a 32-bit RISC-V core that can run at 160 MHz, and 400 kB of static RAM. This controller has Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy (BLE) radios.

A secondary Telink TLSR8258 ultra-low-power MCU provides Zigbee and HomeKit support alongside other standards, and it brings Bluetooth Mesh capabilities to the device. There are four antennas on the board and a USB-C port to connect to and power the gadget.

The board has multiple general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins across the two processors, alongside UART, I2C, SPI, and I2S buses. Plus, there are programmable buttons and LED lights with the motherboard measuring 7.5 x 3.1 cm (~3.0 x 1.2-in).

Lilygo has shared supporting documents on Github which describe how to pair the device with the Aqara Motion Sensor and the Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor via a Zigbee2MQTT bridge. You can now buy the Lilygo T-Zigbee board for around US$7.20 via AliExpress.
