Elecrow's GrowCube is a smart plant watering kit with soil moisture sensors
Elecrow has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Growcube, a smart plant watering kit. The company said it had unveiled the kit after an Instructables post about a similar Arudino-based project went viral. This gadget could be helpful when you go on holiday or if you often forget to water your plants.
GrowCube is a smart automatic watering gadget that can water four plants at once, with a moisture sensor and sprinkler for each pot. Smart Watering Mode uses high precision moisture sensors to calculate when each plant needs water and how much water to give.
Alternatively, you can use Auto Watering Mode to set a specific time and water dosage for your plant. Manual Watering Mode allows you to water your plants at the click of a button.
The GrowCube has a 1.5 L water tank that irrigates four plants for around two weeks. You can control the device through an accompanying app, selecting the species of plant that you want to water. The GrowCube database contains maintenance instructions for over 3,000 plants that the system can use for intelligent watering, taking into account time of day and temperature.
Elecrow claims that the kit is relatively easy to assemble, with no coding knowledge. You can now order a GrowCube by pledging HK$699 (~US$89) to the Kickstarter campaign. After this pre-sale period, the GrowCube will retail for US$119.
