The flash memory company wants to start out small in the RAM market before moving up to 3200 MHz options for gamers and enthusiasts.

Traditionally known for its USB flash drives and SD card readers, Lexar has been slowly expanding its portfolio to include SSDs as well. Now, the company is ready to launch its first family of UDIMM and SODIMM sticks for consumer PCs and laptops.

The new Lexar DDR4-2666 SODIMM and DDR4-2666 UDIMM sticks are nothing particularly special, but that's also exactly what most users are likely looking for, anyway. The manufacturer is targeting workrooms and classrooms who may not need fancy or costly features that enthusiasts crave.

The DDR4-2666 SODIMM series for laptops will launch before the end of this month in 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB capacities for $20, $30, $65, and $160 USD, respectively. The DDR4-2666 UDIMM series for desktops will also be available at around the same time in 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB options for $33, $65, and $150 USD, respectively.

Lexar plans to offer faster DDR4-3000 and DDR4-3200 options in the near future with potential heat sinks and RGB features to appeal to the enthusiast market.
