Lenovo launches new affordable ThinkPad C14 Chromebook
Last year, Lenovo launched a new ThinkPad line just for Chrome OS: The ThinkPad C series. Its first member was the Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook (available from Amazon, affiliate link), a convertible laptop for business and education.
In 2022, Lenovo adds another member to this series: The ThinkPad C14 Chromebook. This new model ditches the convertible design in favor of a more affordable price - a traditional clamshell laptop is cheaper to produce and sell.
Spec wise, the ThinkPad C14 uses Intel CPUs, which is a departure from the AMD-powered ThinkPad C13 Yoga. Using 12th Gen Intel CPUs has the advantage of providing vPro options, a sought after feature for some enterprise customers. Also included, due to the Intel chipset, is Thunderbolt 4. The Intel CPUs are backed up by up to 16 GB of soldered LPDDR4X memory.
Like the ThinkPad C13 Yoga, the C14 is clad in a blue chassis, a differentiator from traditional ThinkPads that are black. It does sport the TrackPoint though, which is a unique feature among Chromebooks. As a business device, the ThinkPad C14 does offer LTE, it also has a webcam Privacy shutter.
Because it aims for a low price, the C14 sticks with the 16:9 aspect ratio and it tops out at 300 nit FHD (1,920 x 1,080) 14 inch screens. Speaking of the price: The ThinkPad C14 Chromebook launches in August in Europe, and it will cost roughly €480.
