16-inch consumer laptops are becoming more common and so it was only a matter of time before such options would make their way to the mobile workstation world. Lenovo will soon be launching the 16:10 16-inch ThinkPad P16 Gen 1 as a middle-ground solution in between the smaller 15.6-inch ThinkPad P15 and larger 17.3-inch ThinkPad P17.
Much like with the Dell Precision 7000 series or HP ZBook Fury series, the ThinkPad P16 will be packed to the brim in terms of configurable features and performance. CPU options range from 12th gen Core i5 up to the Core i9 HX series alongside the Nvidia RTX A5500 GPU based on the mobile GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. The display options in particular are attractive ranging from FHD+ with full sRGB coverage up to QHD+ and UHD+ touch with full AdobeRGB and DCI-P3 coverage, respectively.
Externally, the all-aluminum gray chassis and keyboard layout appear to be inspired by the gaming Legion series. Even the red accent along the rear of the design screams gaming and high performance. Hopefully chassis rigidity will be reflective of the high price point as Legion models are typically more susceptible to twisting and warping than a high-end Dell Precision or HP ZBook.
The ThinkPad P16 will be available by the end of this month starting at $1980 USD. See the official specifications sheet below for additional details.
