B&H is currently running an excellent deal for Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 5i 2023 16-inch laptop that is US$200 off. As the name suggests, this model has a thin profile of only 16.9 mm (0.7 inches) and weighs 1.89 kg (4.17 lbs). It is powered by Intel’s i5-1335U processor with two performance cores running at 4.6 GHz max and eight more efficiency cores running at 3.4 GHz max, which translates to 12 threads. This CPU also integrates an Iris Xe GPU with 80 EUs and is complemented by 16 GB of LPDDR5-5200 RAM along with a 512 GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.
The only real minus for this laptop is the IPS display that is limited to 62% sRGB color gamut, so it is not really recommended for image or video processing. Otherwise, the specs seem decent for a daily driver with 1920 x 1200 resolution, 300 nit brightness and low blue light filter.
Port selection includes 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 2x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI 1.4 video out, audio jack and a microSD card reader. There is also wireless connectivity offered through a Wi-Fi 6 + BT 5.1 card. As far as security goes, Lenovo provides a fingerprint reader placed near the touchpad, while the 1080p webcam comes with a privacy shutter.
Those traveling a lot will find the battery life quite pleasing, as the 56.6Wh battery is rated for up to 10 hours or 14.5 hours of video playback. The included charger with Rapid Charge Boost offers two hours of power with just 15 minutes of charging.
