While the 11th Generation Intel processors push the price higher than we'd like, it also means that this chipset and the RAM that accompanies it are ready for Windows 11 and years of faithful service. Just as the Flex 5 Chromebook handily won the title of Best Chromebook, the Lenovo Flex 5 (14") is coming for the crown among the Best Cheap Laptops.

Sure, the Flex 5 isn't perfect. The display isn't nearly as bright as I'd like, although it's fine for regular indoor use. Also, the pen storage design is just not good. I don't want to call it terrible because there are worse ways of doing it, but it's annoying. You have to remove the pen just to press the power button or to plug in a peripheral. And the thing is, the pen is docked exactly when I want to plug in a peripheral, when I'm at my desk.

The Flex 5 has a full HD IPS display and the latest AMD Ryzen 5 4500U and 7 4700U processors that are highly competitive with Intel’s offerings. The laptop has 360 degree hinges, a fingerprint scanner, backlit keyboard and a USB-C port and full size SD card slot. It competes with the HP Envy x360 13 and starts around $669.

The Lenovo Flex 5 with AMD Ryzen 4500U is another great performing low cost laptop that can actually play some games too. This one is a two-in-one convertible that can double as a tablet.

AMD Vega 6: Integrated graphics adapter of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 6 CUs (= 384 shaders) and a clock of up to 1,500 MHz.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
