In terms of battery life, the Envy was able to run for nearly seven hours of web browsing. Additionally, we found the design both attractive and functional, from the super slim keyboard to the large trackpad. All in all, we couldn't be more thrilled with this model's ability to do it all, noting that it would be difficult to find a better laptop in this price range.

The HP Envy x360 is an affordable and versatile all-rounder that looks superb, has solid build quality and smooth movement, and it’s barely heavier or thicker than more expensive and conventional laptops.

The HP Envy x360 13 is one of only a handful of Ryzen 4000-based laptops we’ve reviewed, but it reinforces a sea change we’re seeing in performance available to consumers. You are literally getting premium CPU and graphics performance that would typically cost you two to three hundred dollars more with an Intel CPU. For example, last year’s Intel-based Envy x360 13 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage cost roughly the same $800 as this current Ryzen-based model, but the newer model far outstrips the older in CPU performance. You’re also getting a laptop that hits many right notes in fit and finish. It’s not perfect by far, but this is overall an impressive laptop at a great price.

One of the first laptops to sport AMD's latest fourth-generation Ryzen U-series processors, the HP Envy x360 13 (starts at $679.99) combines above-average computing performance with a thin, light, and stylish chassis. It also includes a convenient automatic webcam privacy filter, a high-quality screen, and a comfortable keyboard. Ringing up at $889.99 in our Ryzen 5-based test model with all of these features, the Envy x360 13 is also a good value, clinching our Editors' Choice award for best midrange 2-in-1 convertible laptop.

That's actually the unit that I'm going to recommend. For $799, the unit that HP sent me is a great deal, but 16GB of RAM just puts you in a better place, and it future-proofs your PC a bit more. Considering that it's still wildly inexpensive for something that feels so premium at under a thousand dollars, I say go for the Ryzen 7 4700U with 16GB RAM.

Reviews of budget and midrange laptops are often a question of what you’re trading off for that lower price point. I’ve pointed out some places where the Envy doesn’t quite measure up to the best laptops on the market (the dimmer screen, the wobblier hinge, the aspect ratio, the video editing troubles), but the only reason we’re even having that discussion is that this laptop feels like it’s competing with the top of the line. Between the Envy x360 and other $800 laptops, there’s no contest. This is aiming at the big leagues; this is a Spectre.

With that said, the Envy x360 13 gets my highest recommendation. It's the perfect laptop for those who want a premium notebook at an affordable price and is as good or better than many laptops that cost hundreds more.

The Envy starts at $649. It’s s 13.3” Ultrabook with an aluminum casing, and it’s one of the smallest 13” laptops and light at 2.92 lb. / 1.32kg. It has 360 degree hinges and is a convertible laptop supporting touch and pen (pen not included). The PC has USB-A, USB-C ports and a microSD card slot. It has DDR 3200MHz dual channel RAM and an M.2 NVMe SSD. It competes with the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 and is the more affordable yet still classy alternative to the HP Spectre x360.

AMD Vega 6: Integrated graphics adapter of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 6 CUs (= 384 shaders) and a clock of up to 1,500 MHz.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

R5 4500U: An upper mid-range, hexa-core APU designed for use in thinner, lighter laptops. The Ryzen features Zen 2 CPU cores running at 2.3 GHz to 4.0 GHz along with the Vega 6 graphics adapter (6 x 64 = 384 unified shaders). The thread-doubling SMT technology is not enabled in the case of Ryzen 5 4500U.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
85.83%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
