If the recent $300 Lenovo deal was too "basic" for your needs, then this $500 HP Pavilion might do the trick. The 14-inch HP Pavilion x360 2-in-1 is the latest affordable convertible from HP and not some 4 year old model that some retailers like to put on "sale" just to clear inventory.
Since this is a 2020 design, the 14-inch Pavilion x360 comes with a bunch of modern features including narrow side bezels, the latest Intel Ice Lake Core i5-1035G1 CPU, a 1080p touchscreen, and a sleek design especially for a laptop at this price range. Most other budget systems typically come with Core i3 CPUs or slower with thick, unattractive designs in comparison.
The main drawback to this deal is that the system will be difficult for the end-user to upgrade, service, or repair since the bottom panels on most Pavilion laptops are difficult to remove. If you want to upgrade RAM or storage, for example, you'll need to have the right tools with plenty of patience or risk damaging the chassis.
