The next year’s Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge has pretty big shoes to fill for two main reasons. First up, the smartphone is reportedly replacing the Galaxy S26 Plus to occupy the middle of the lineup. The “Plus” Galaxy S phones have been some of the most well-rounded Samsung flagships with better specs than the base variant and a cheaper price than the Ultra variant.
Secondly, the Galaxy S26 Edge has to possibly compete against the Apple iPhone 17 Air, Cupertino’s super-slim iPhone 17 contender. To do this effectively, the Galaxy S26 Edge will need to have cutting-edge hardware with a comparable or even thinner design and bigger battery.
Samsung is reportedly doing just that as several leaks have now pointed to the Galaxy S26 Edge bringing an even thinner design than the 5.8 mm Galaxy S25 Edge and a larger capacity battery. The latest leak confirming this has come from prolific leaker UniverseIce on X.
UniverseIce claims that the Galaxy S26 Edge will be only 5.5 mm thick. This is quite interesting, as the iPhone 17 Air is also expected to be around 5.5 mm thick. Compared to the Galaxy S25 Edge, the 5.5 mm thickness of the Galaxy S26 Edge is a 5% improvement.
The Galaxy S26 Edge’s 5% thinner design is reportedly accompanied by a 4,200 mAh battery. The Galaxy S26 Edge’s battery capacity has been uncertain, with leaks indicating both a 4,200 mAh and a 4,400 mAh capacity. However, with UniverseIce’s latest leak, it is seems that the phone might only see an 8% battery size increase over the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3,900 mAh cell.
Finally, with a thinner design, a faster SoC, a bigger battery, and potentially better cameras, the Galaxy S26 Edge is looking like a solid upgrade over the Galaxy S25 Edge. That said, we’ll have to wait for next month to see how well the Galaxy S26 Edge squares up against the iPhone 17 Air.
