LG webOS Hub smart TVs get new Apple features like AirPlay and HomeKit
LG has announced that a range of Apple features is now available via its webOS Hub. While the company’s own devices, such as the LG A2 TV, have supported various tools from Apple for several years, the update enables third-party manufacturers who use LG’s webOS software to provide these services. These brands include Seiki, Eko, Stream System, Konka, Aiwa and Hyundai. According to the company, devices in over 100 countries and regions could use the updated OS.
The update includes a dedicated Apple TV app on the webOS Hub Home Screen and Apple Music, which has over 100 million songs and 4K music video content. Other features are handy for owners of Apple devices, with AirPlay allowing you to cast content to the TV from your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Plus, compatibility with Apple HomeKit will enable users to control their TV with the Apple Home app or Siri voice commands.
LG has not confirmed a detailed list of which TV models will be eligible for the updated OS or when this will be rolled out. However, the company has stated that AirPlay and support for HomeKit are only available on OLED and UHD TVs with webOS Hub 2.0.
