LG V50 ThinQ gains Android 12 update in South Korea and the US
LG has started rolling out Android 12 to the V50 ThinQ, the smartphone's final OS upgrade. Arriving after a similar update for the LG Wing, the V50 ThinQ is now one of many LG smartphones to have received Android 12 in some capacity. For reference, devices like the V60 ThinQ, Velvet and Wing should see Android 13, although it is unclear when.
Currently, Android 12 is available to Verizon-locked versions of the V50 ThinQ, as well as those sold in South Korea. Seemingly, the V50 ThinQ's update contains the same changes that LG introduced with last month's update for the LG Wing. Hence, LG has made minor changes to the UI, such as moving the Google Home device control shortcut to within the notification shade.
The Android 12 update for the V50 ThinQ is rolling out now as an over-the-air (OTA) update for eligible units. Based on our time with the equivalent update for the LG Wing, LG has not made any major changes to its desktop mode, accessible when you connect an LG smartphone to an external monitor. For some reason, LG has bundled the outdated May 2022 security patch with the V50 ThinQ's Android 12 update. As it stands, it remains to be seen whether this is the device's final update, or whether LG plans to release newer security patch updates at some stage.
