LEGO: Astro Bot could arrive with the PlayStation 1 set – but there’s a catch

Rumors about a LEGO version of the original PlayStation have been circulating for several months, and according to well-known leaker BrickTap, the set may not arrive alone. According to a Reddit post, the LEGO PlayStation is scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026, alongside a small Astro Bot model. There is a catch, though: the robot, carrying set number 40899, reportedly won't be sold separately. Instead, it is said to be a Gift with Purchase (GWP), meaning it will only be available for free with the purchase of the PlayStation set, which is rumored to include 1,911 pieces and cost $160.

Although Astro Bot was introduced long after the original PlayStation, the little robot would still be a fitting addition to the set. Following Astro's Playroom on the PS5, Team Asobi released a full-fledged game in 2024 that went on to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Since then, many fans have come to regard Astro Bot as PlayStation's new mascot – alongside icons such as Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet & Clank.

The idea of a LEGO Astro Bot has been well received on Reddit. However, many users are disappointed that the model will apparently only be available as a promotional bonus. They would prefer to buy the robot on its own instead of having to purchase the $160 PlayStation set. Fans also couldn't resist taking a few jabs at Sony's digital strategy. Referencing the company's planned phase-out of physical game discs, some joked that buyers wouldn't actually own the LEGO bricks, but would instead receive nothing more than a revocable license to use them.
