MWC 2025 | Jump to AMD Strix Point, Intel Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake: Lenovo updates upgradeable ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 and T16 Gen 4

Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake, Kraken Point, Strix Point, all of these code names can be confusing. This applies not just to technically inclined consumers, but also to journalists. AMD and Intel do not make it easy for industry watchers, but even the manufacturers sometimes have problems to get all the facts straight.
This is exactly what's happening with the new Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 6 and the bigger brother ThinkPad T16 Gen 4. Lenovo sells the new office laptops, which are one of the most important pillars in the commercial lineup of the manufacturer, with a total of five different processor series:
- Intel Lunar Lake
- Intel Arrow Lake U
- Intel Arrow Lake H
- AMD Kraken Point
- AMD Strix Point
It is not surprising that Lenovo had trouble with creating a spec sheet for these devices. The spec sheet listed 32 GB of soldered LPPDR5X RAM for these models, but this is only the case for the Lunar Lake variants. All other versions of the T14 G6 and T16 G4 have two SO-DIMM slots with upgradeable memory up to 64 GB.
Apart from the new processors, the new T series has not too many changes compared with the predecessors. For the ThinkPad T16, the AMD option is big news, as the ThinkPad T16 G3 did not have one.
Another new feature of the T14 Gen 6 is an optional bigger battery with up to 57 Wh. Previously, this model topped out at 52.5 Wh. All offered batteries are CRUs, so they can be changed by the user during the warranty period. The low power IPS panel has been upgraded to 500 cd/m² and the same is true for the OLED screen of the T14 Gen 6, which also now support variable refresh rate (VRR).
