Jackery is showing its Explorer System, or Solar Generator for Rooftop Tent at CES 2024. Designed for overlanding, the product combines a vehicle-mounted tent with retractable solar panels and an outdoor power supply.
The Explorer System’s 1,000W solar panels are estimated to generate 4 to 5 kWh of energy daily in the US. This is stored in an accompanying 1.26 kWh E1000 Plus power station, with a maximum AC output of 2,000W. The capacity allows you to power a 60W mini fridge for 45 hours or a 900W cooker for around an hour. You can also upgrade to a 6kWh capacity using LFP expansion batteries. Alongside solar charging, the E1000 Plus supports car charging, with a full recharge taking around seven hours, or you can charge the device to 100% via a wall outlet in under two hours.
The tent, measuring around 2,100 x 13,000 x 1,700 mm (~82.7 x 511.8 x 66.9-in), contains a memory foam mattress, dimmable colored lighting, insulation and waterproof fabric to protect you from the elements. The product is also said to withstand more extreme environments, working at temperatures as low as -43°C (~-45°F) and at altitudes of up to 5,000m (~16,400 ft). The Explorer System, which won Red Dot and A’Design awards in 2023, is currently in concept form. The company has announced plans to begin production by the end of the year. However, an exact launch date or retail price has yet to be announced.
