When we reviewed the Iqunix Magi65 Pro earlier this year, we remarked that the wireless mechanical keyboard punched well above its weight, delivering an exceptional typing experience despite its low-profile design. Now, Iqunix has introduced two new models to the Magi line-up: The 75% Magi75 and the 96% Magi96. Both feature much of what made the Magi65 Pro great, but with more practical layout options for those who can't live with the diminutive 65% keyboard.
Iqunix Magi75 and Magi96 specs and details
The Magi75 is a compact 75% layout, while the Magi96 follows a typical 96% layout standard, which packs a num pad alongside the regular alphanumeric keys. The Gold Red switches in the Magi75 and Magi96 use materials that produce a pleasant, if somewhat muted typing sound and feel, and that's complemented by the PBT keycaps, aluminium case, FR4 plate, and ample case foams. Both keyboards also come with an impressive accessory kit that includes extra keycaps for macOS/Windows compatibility, a braided USB-C cable, a premium carrying case, and an adaptor that acts as an extender for the 2.4 GHz dongle when used with the cable.
Common specs:
- Switches: Iqunix Gold Red switches (40 gf actuation force, POM stem, PC top, Nylon bottom
- Case material: CNC aluminium, e-coating Ochre White or anodised Shadow Black
- Front height: 11.3 mm claimed, 12.4 mm (measured from the Magi65 Pro)
- Connectivity: 2.4 GHz (1,000 Hz polling), Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C
- Battery capacity: 4,000 mAh
- Battery life: up to 500 hours without backlighting
- Backlighting: North-facing per-key RGB
- Keycaps: Dye-sublimated PBT, uniform-height low profile
Both the Magi75 and Magi96 are available in regular and Pro models, with the Pro models featuring the same media control panel and scroll wheel on the right edge of the keyboard. This little panel is configurable in VIA, the open-source keyboard configuration web app and software, as is the horizontally mounted volume dial. The little media panel makes for a nice macro pad, since many of the controls it offers are duplicated in the function row shortcuts.
One of the major criticisms we had about the Magi65 Pro in our review was that the battery life significantly diminishes once you enable the backlighting. Without backlighting, we estimated the battery life to be around 250–330 hours, depending on use, but the keyboard barely manages seven hours with the backlighting on full brightness. The same is true for the Magi75 and Magi96, where the battery life drops to as low as 10 hours with all of the lighting enabled on the Magi75 Pro. The Magi96 and Magi75 also boast the same instant-wake feature that impressed us in our Magi65 Pro review, which remains the quickest we've ever seen a keyboard wake from sleep when connected to Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz.
