A Canadian retailer has published the prices for the upcoming Comet Lake-S processors Intel Core i9-10900, Intel Core i7-10700K, and Intel Core i7-10700. The parts are similarly priced, at least with this particular outlet, to their Coffee Lake predecessors. However, it seems AMD Matisse processors could still offer users a decent price/performance edge.

The Canadian retailer DirectDial has started posting prices for Comet Lake-S chips, beginning with the Intel Core i9-10900, i7-10700K, and i7-10700. The processors are listed at CAD$679 (US$487), CAD$585 (US$419), and CAD$506 (US$363), respectively. The parts are apparently “incoming” to stock with mention of the date June 17 for expected arrival.

Price-wise, the new Comet Lake-S processors are very competitively priced compared to the Coffee Lake generation. For instance, as pointed out by momomo_us, DirectDial has the Intel Core i9-9900 listed at CAD$678 (US$486), the i7-9700K at CAD$578 (US$414), and the i7-9700 priced at CAD$502 (US$360). Compared to the older chips, the prices of the new Comet Lake-S parts look like a steal.

But what about the competition? Looking at the same retailer, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X is listed at CAD$747 (US$535). The Matisse chip has 12 cores and 24 threads for users to tinker with compared to the 10 cores and 20 threads of the Intel Core i9-10900. The Ryzen 3000 processor does have a higher TDP (105 W vs. 65 W) though. But with a bit of simple shopping around, it’s possible to find the Ryzen 9 3900X as low as US$449.99 at the time of writing, making it likely to be a much more enticing option for buyers over the 10-core Comet Lake-S CPU.
