Huawei has not yet finished rolling out EMUI 11 to all devices, which it announced late last year. However, the company has now unveiled its next smartphone OS globally, long assumed to be HarmonyOS 2. While Huawei has started rolling out HarmonyOS 2 to smartphones in China, the 'next-gen operating system' may not be making its way to the likes of the Mate 30 Pro and P40 Pro in other markets.
Instead, it seems that Huawei intends to release EMUI 12, instead. Strangely, the company has not teased the new OS on its social media channels. However, it has published a website for EMUI 12, which contains a few promotional images that we have included below. As far as we can tell, Huawei has introduced a new font, along with soft gradients and more shadows than in EMUI 11.
Additionally, EMUI 12 has a cleaner Control Panel that contains 'Device+ Smart Collaboration', among other changes. It is unclear what version of Android is running behind the scenes though, with Huawei making no mention of anything on its EMUI 12 website. According to @RODENT950, EMUI 12 lacks the HarmonyOS kernel, but HarmonyOS 2.1 may utilise EMUI 12 in some aspects. Unfortunately, Huawei is yet to published an EMUI 12 rollout schedule, so we do not know which devices will receive the new OS.
