Rumour | Huawei gives fans hope that the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro will receive EMUI 10 and Android 10
Huawei unveiled the Mate 9 series over three years ago, so few people probably expected continued software support for the company's former flagships. While both devices have already received to OS upgrades from Android 7.0 Nougat through to Android 9.0 Pie, Huawei may not be done with them yet.
According to multiple sources, EMUI 10 is in development for the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro. EMUI 10, for the uninitiated, is Huawei's custom version of Android 10, which would be quite the coup for devices that are now over three years old.
The information appears legitimate, with Huawei Mobile Services confirming the news to a follower on Instagram. However, while there is a screenshot that demonstrates this, we have been unable to verify the post ourselves.
If EMUI 10 does make its way to the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro, then it will come with Google Mobile Services (GMS) pre-installed too. While Huawei currently ships new devices without GMS, it can continue to preload them on software for older hardware. We would not hold our breath on this one quite yet, though.
