The Huawei Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, P10, and P10 Plus are billed to receive Pie in March 2019
Huawei began the global rollout for its Kirin 970-powered flagships a few days ago. The Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P20, and P20 Pro are now all receiving their stable Pie updates, and the update files for similar Honor offerings are also now available to the public. The company is set to go back one more generation, however, as it will also send out the Pie update to the Mate 9 and P10 phones.
Of course, those phones are effectively two generations old at this point, so they don’t get priority. The source reports that the flagships will receive Pie in March. The Pie update will be the second major update the phones receive, as they were launched on Android Nougat and received Oreo much earlier this year.
Huawei has generally committed to offering two major updates for its premium phones, and it’s nice to see the company actually put the older flagship in its sights. The Oreo update was a lot less considerate, as it took months of media heckling for Huawei to finally send out the EMUI 8.0 update to the P9 and Honor 8, and even then most users of the phones are still yet to receive the update. Hopefully, things are more straightforward this time.
