Huawei MateBook series officially coming to North America
After entering the US smartphone last year with the Honor 8, Huawei is now ready for a slice of the laptop market with an entire family of MateBook devices. Note that all of the following models are already available in certain regions overseas and can thus be imported to North America if desired. An official US launch, however, will ensure more reasonable prices, faster customer service, and appropriate software for the target audience.
The first model will be the premium 13.3-inch MateBook X that aims to be an alternative to the MacBook 12 and Surface Laptop. The unibody system is just 4.4 mm thick with an uncommon 3:2 aspect ratio display. Perhaps its most interesting feature, however, is its fanless design despite holding U-class Core i5 and i7 CPUs. The Core i5 SKU will launch for $1099 USD in Space Gray while the Core i7 SKU will launch for $1299 USD in Prestige Gold.
Moving one step down is the mainstream 15.6-inch MateBook D with its dedicated GeForce 940MX graphics, aluminum build, and high 83 percent screen-to-body ratio. The notebook will be a cheaper alternative to the popular Dell XPS 15 and Asus VivoBook series with it starting price of just $699 USD.
Finally, the MateBook E is Huawei's answer to the Surface Pro and HP EliteBook Folio series. The 2-in-1 tablet weighs just over one pound and will feature a 2K display and detachable keyboard with every purchase. The fanless Core m3 SKU will retail for $799 USD in Titanium Gray while the higher-end Core i5 SKU will retail for $999 USD in Champagne Gold.
All models will be available for pre-order beginning June 30th on Newegg and Amazon. As usual, expect our standard reviews to follow in the coming weeks.
