It has been rumored that Huawei is planning on releasing a Mate Watch at the same time as the expected Huawei Mate 40 smartphone series. According to a leaker, the Huawei Mate Watch will operate with Harmony OS (known as HongMeng OS in China) and could be launched on October 1.

Huawei already has attractive smartwatches in its product lineup with the Huawei Watch GT 2 and GT 2e, but if rumors are to be believed then those wearables will soon be joined by a Huawei Mate Watch. However, while the Huawei Watch GT 2 operates on the OEM’s Lite OS, it appears the upcoming Huawei Mate Watch will get to use the company’s Android alternative: Harmony OS.

Using Harmony OS would certainly offer a potential Huawei Mate Watch increased functionality and utility over the Watch GT 2 series, and hopefully it would operate with fewer issues than Lite OS. Huawei already stated that the in-house Harmony operating system could be developed for use with wearable devices, so this particular rumor about the Mate Watch could be accurate.

The same source, @RODENT950, also offered up a potential release date for the Huawei Mate Watch and also for the Huawei Mate 40 smartphone series. The leaker mentioned a rumor that the “Chinese National Day” had been selected by Huawei to reveal its Mate-branded smart devices. The National Day of the People’s Republic of China falls on October 1.
