A couple of placeholder images revealing a Huawei smartband and Huawei smartwatch have been posted on Weibo. The smartwatch appears to have the codename “Stia” while the activity tracker has been tagged with the word “Fides”. We recently reported about a leak concerning a potential Huawei Mate Watch that could end up being released alongside the Huawei Mate 40 series in October. It's possible this Stia device is the Mate Watch.
The placeholder image for the Huawei Stia smartwatch reveals a circular case, which puts it in line with already existing smartwatches from the Chinese OEM, such as the Huawei Watch GT 2. More interestingly, the Huawei Fides smartband image does show some similarity with the Huawei Band 4, as in it has a distinctive rectangular display, but the navigation button is different. The Huawei Band 4 has a slender “stadium” shape for the button whereas the placeholder image displays a circular button.
It’s reasonable to believe that the Huawei Fides smartband is actually going to be the Huawei Band 5. Huawei will have undoubtedly been watching Xiaomi’s incredible success with the Mi Band 5 and will want to issue its own rival activity tracker while the wearables market is still hot. It has been speculated that the possible Huawei Band 5 could launch in Q4 2020, perhaps in October at the same time as the Huawei Mate 40 smartphones and rumored Mate Watch.
