Huawei has released a new update for the P10 and P10 Plus, despite having removed the two devices from its monthly and quarterly updates schedule. The P10 and P10 Plus have already received their allotted two OS upgrades from Android 7.0 Nougat through to Android 9.0 Pie, so the update does not bring Android 10 to the three-year-old handsets. However, it is more than just a perfunctory security patch update, although it does upgrade the P10 and P10 Plus to the May 2020 set of Android security patches.
According to Huawei Central, the update includes new features like Smart Charge and Huawei Assistant. The former aims to reduce battery wear by adapting and preventing the battery from being continuously charged when full. The update enables this feature by default. Huawei has also added its in-house assistant to the home screen of the default launcher in EMUI 9.1. Huawei Assistant provides smart reminders and news, among other personalised content.
The update is called 9.1.0.275 (C02E10R1P9) and is a 4.05 GB download. Huawei has issued the update as an over-the-air (OTA) download. While your device should notify you when the update is ready to download, you can check manually from with the Software update section of Settings or the update section of the Huawei support app.
