Going by all available information, the Galaxy S20 phones will be more expensive than their predecessors—in the US at least. While that may sound like a thoughtless move by Samsung, some context is necessary.

It's been conflicting leak after conflicting leak over the past weeks. Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S20 series in less than a week, and it's still unknown how much the phones will cost. So, what do we know about the pricing details of the Galaxy S20 series.

Leak 1

Ishan Agarwal's leak is relevant for the EU. The leakster claims the following:

  • S20 4G - €899
  • S20 5G - €999
  • S20+ 5G - €1,099
  • S20 Ultra 5G - €1,349

Leak 2

Max Weinbach is relevant for the UK. Prices are expected to be as follows:

  • S20 4G - £799
  • S20 5G - £874
  • S20+ 4G - £999
  • S20+ 5G - £1074
  • S20 Ultra 5G - £1149

Surprisingly, these figures match up nicely to the first leak.

Leak 3

Jon Prosser's leak pertains to the phones' pricing in the US.

  • S20 - US$999
  • S20+ - US$1,199
  • S20 Ultra - US$1,399

Most of these numbers are also on par with the other two leaks. Samsung usually sells its phones in the US and EU at the same price, without any currency conversions. The S10+, for example, cost US$999 and €999 in the US and EU respectively.

It's looking more like the US will not get any 4G model of the S20 phones, and that explains the pricing. Hence, the 5G S20 (standard for the US) costs US$999 and €999. It's a heavy price tag, but Samsung will feel they've done enough with the phones' to warrant that.

The base Galaxy S10 cost US$899 last year and it looks like rumors of Samsung charging a US$100 premium for 5G were on the mark. Going by these leaks, the S20 4G and last year's S10 have the exact same price, and that doesn't sound at all bad when one considers the major improvements the S20 will offer.
