With decent performance, a camera that’s capable of great things, solid build quality and exemplary battery life, the Honor 6A does most of the basics well - but not all.

It really depends on what you're looking for and what you're happy with on your phone. For one, the Honor 6A is available directly from Three in the UK, which might be of use to you.

In the same breath, it does little wrong, so would make a savvy out-and-out purchase for someone who doesn't want all the bells & whistles and, of course, associated costs of a higher-end smartphone.

Honor isn’t doing much new here, but the 6A could be a solid budget choice, especially if the battery life impresses.

Still, the price is right, and if Honor can add enough little extras with EMUI, it might still be worth a look. I’ll know for sure when I get one in for review a little closer to launch.

The Honor 6A doesn't change the world of affordable phones, but it offers everything you'd expect and probably a little bit more for a device priced under £150.

Comment
Model: The Honor 6A is Honor’s attempt to repeat its success in the affordable smartphone range. On first impressions, the Honor 6A is not going to overthrow the reigning champ, but it still seems great value and once again shows user don’t need to spend big bucks to get a decent phone. At around 150 g it is a light phone in the hand. The screen, at 5-inches in scale, is fairly small compared to many of today's megaphones, too, which makes for easy one-handed use. It's a fairly slim handset at 8.2 mm, ensuring it's easy to slip into a pocket. The design of the smartphone features a metal slab with rounded sides and a gray/black color scheme. There’s an Honor logo below the 5-inch screen and a fairly thin bezel around it. The end result is an inoffensive, but dull, looking phone. There is also no fingerprint scanner, even though the same model in China has one, which is a little annoying, but forgivable given the phone’s price. In terms of power, the Honor 6A has a middling processor arrangement and 2 GB of RAM, which is entry-level these days. That Snapdragon CPU might be low-end, but it is a load more reliable than MediaTek’s competing silicon. A user only gets 16 GB storage, but there is a microSD slot that can be used to add a further 128 GB.
Budget phones often fall down when it comes to the camera, but the Honor 6A has plenty going for it. There is a 13 MP protruding circular camera sensor with phase detection autofocus on the back, and a 5 MP camera on the front. A user has got access to all the usual Huawei camera features too, including the dreaded beauty mode and an array of filters. Software is one of those areas that Huawei has improved upon over the years. Its EMUI, short for Emotion User Interface, started out life a bit fussy, then got overzealous with constant alerts beyond what standard Android phones would usually present its users. The EMUI 5.1 featured on the Honor 6A features more gauged alerts for the sake of battery saving. When ignoring some not perfect design choices, it is a perfectly usable operating system. The screen uses a 5-inch LCD IPS panel that offers surprisingly decent color reproduction. Being an IPS panel, it has decent viewing angles. The 720p resolution is not the sharpest, but at this price, it is fine and more than usable. The most interesting spec is the battery, which is a beefy 3020 mAh cell. That is bigger than a lot of flagships phones, but the Honor 6A has fewer pixels to push. It might take a while to fully recharge since there is no USB-C or fast-charge technology here.

This display is tiny. You will probably see very little on the screen and be able to use mini-resolutions.

In 2014 Huawei created the sub brand Honor and offers certain smartphone series under this name. Occasionally the products are also called Huawei Honor.
The market share of Honor products is manageable, but there are several reviews on Honor smartphones with average ratings (as of 2016).
73.79%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
