The HiMill D1 and HiMill D1S are affordable CNC machines that should be easy to operate for regular users. The two model versions differ quite significantly, only the D1S version allows for quick tool changes and is also advertised with a precision of 0.02 millimeters instead of 0.04 millimeters. Both variants offer a working area of 280 x 200 x 80 millimeters and should work with various materials including wood and metal. Such CNC machines can drill holes with high precision, but engraving and cutting is also possible. Furthermore, this device can make certain projects a lot easier and faster, for instance when dozens of holes must be placed in a side panel of a PC case. The machine can also be fitted with a laser module.
The manufacturer further advertises an output of 250 Watts and a brushless motor. With a corresponding accessory, processing materials can also be clamped, which allows the CNC device to essentially function as a lathe. Operation is designed to be straightforward, and users should supposedly be able to start using the machine immediately after unpacking. That said, users will probably need a certain amount of experience with CAD/CAM software for that. USB and WiFi connectivity are onboard as well. As part of the ongoing Kickstarter campaign, the HiMill D1 can be reserved for a contribution of $420, but backers will face the usual financial risks of crowdfunding campaigns in general.
