Even after a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, interested buyers still have the opportunity to buy their new CNC machine in the form of the NestWorks C500 at a steep discount. To be more exact, a substantial 40% markdown is being advertised, although the usual crowdfunding risks naturally also apply in this case. With prices currently starting at around $2,800, this money could be lost in a worst-case scenario.
With that out of the way, the NestWorks C500 is intended to meet the expectations of demanding and sometimes even industrial users. According to the manufacturer, a wide range of materials can be processed. Wood and plasticsare just the starting point, as metals such as aluminum magnesium, but even steel and titanium alloys can be used with this CNC machine. This can be helpful for producing extremely durable components. Such a device can also be useful for creating prototypes and replacement parts. However, it should be noted that self-manufactured tools and components can’t always be used without restrictions in some professional scenarios.
Either way, the spindle output is specified at 800 watts with a rotational speed of 18,000 revs per minute. NestWorks further specifies a precision of 0.02 millimeters. An automatic tool changer is built-in, while an RFID system is available for tool identification. Optical sensors are onboard as well, but the 5W laser module is optional and might be useful for engraving.
