Harry Potter series: What fans are taking from the new HBO trailer

HBO Max has released a new “Coming Soon” trailer showcasing several upcoming series. Alongside fresh glimpses of shows such as Lanterns and The Gilded Age, the upcoming Harry Potter series also appears – a project that recently made headlines due to the recasting of Ginny Weasley. The trailer does not show any new Harry Potter footage. It only uses scenes from the first teaser, so the interesting part is not what HBO shows, but how prominently it presents the series.
Apart from the 20-second mark, where Harry briefly walks toward Platform 9 ¾, the first two thirds of the trailer contain no scenes from the wizarding world. From the 1:13 mark onward, however, HBO gives the Harry Potter series a section lasting more than ten seconds – prominently placed as the longest uninterrupted sequence in the trailer. Fans on Reddit take this as a sign that HBO currently sees the return to Hogwarts as one of its most important prestige projects.
HBO currently has several major brands in its lineup. These include The Last of Us and House of the Dragon, whose third season is set to start in June 2026. There is also the second Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The fact that Harry Potter is still highlighted so prominently in this environment suggests that HBO is likely to devote a considerable amount of attention to the project. Fans see this as a positive sign. Given the cult status of the books and films, however, that prioritization is not particularly surprising. The expected second installment of Hogwarts Legacy could also further fuel the Harry Potter hype, making the series adaptation even more attractive for HBO.
