The 2021 Envy x360 15 gets a small facelift and a processor update over the 2020 version. If you don't mind skipping Thunderbolt support, then the new model can be better than the Spectre x360 15 in many ways.

All that said, while the Envy has dinks here and there, it nails the three elements that will impact your user experience the most: performance, battery life, and build. As other high-quality laptops across the board appear to be creeping up in price, I’m glad to see that there are still solid options like this at the $1,000 mark. Don’t get me wrong — $1,000 isn’t cheap. But as many famously excellent models appear to be creeping up in price each year, I think the Envy x360 15, and the Envy line as a whole, is a good reminder: you don’t need to follow them there. There’s still great stuff right here.

All this adds up to a solid value for a 15-inch laptop, especially when you factor in the 16GB of RAM and 512GB of solid state storage as reviewed. The HP Envy x360 15 performs well, has an attractive design, and includes both a great keyboard and a nice array of ports. The convertible touchscreen is just icing, even if it adds a bit of bulk.

The HP Envy x360 15 (2021) is nearly in a class by itself as far as 2-in-1 laptop performance goes, combining some dominating CPU and graphics scores with a well-built design, fantastic display, outstanding battery life, and an incredible price. It's on the heavier side though, and using it in tablet mode isn't the most comfortable experience we've had with a 2-in-1, but the positives far outweigh these points for us. Some might disagree though, and we certainly wouldn't blame them.

Lisa Gade reviews the 2021 HP Envy x360 15” with AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs inside and Radeon graphics. This is a Windows convertible with 360 degree hinges, a touch screen and active pen support. It’s a very good deal starting at $659 with an aluminum chassis, color calibrated full HD IPS display, fingerprint scanner and upgradable internals (though HP describes it as non-user upgradable, we show you how). The laptop is aimed at creative consumers looking to do photo editing and drawing along with the usual productivity tasks. HP does also offer it with Intel 11th gen Tiger Lake CPUs and up to a 4K display.

If you're shopping for a 15.6-inch convertible laptop, HP is determined to close the sale. You say the premium Spectre x360 15 is too expensive? Look! There's the under-$800 Pavilion x360 15. Actually, were you thinking of something between those extremes? Then perhaps the Envy x360 15 (starts at $699.99; $999.99 as tested) will hit the sweet spot. It's heavy and unwieldy in tablet mode, but neither HP nor any of its competitors has been able to make a big-screen 2-in-1 that isn't, and its AMD Ryzen 7 processor serves up lively multi-threaded performance. We prefer our convertibles a bit smaller and more manageable, but the Envy is a handsome choice if you like your convertible super-sized.

The HP Envy x360 15 is a solid choice that offers peppy performance and is handy for mobile professionals or college students who need something relatively lightweight. Thanks to its AMD Ryzen 7 5700U processor, the Envy can handle most of your work and entertainment needs. Also, the notebook has some excellent security features to ensure your essential data remains safe. Starting at just $769 (our review unit cost $999) the HP Envy x360 15 offers good specs and performance for the price. It is far less expensive than the Dell Latitude 7320 (starting price $1,569) or the Surface Pro 7+ ($1,486). However, the lack of a stylus is frustrating.

The HP Envy x360 15.6-inch 2-in-1 appears to be a great choice for any budding creatives who are looking for both a tablet on which they can draw as well as a powerful laptop for browsing the web, checking emails and typing up documents. The use case for this laptop is varied, and the low weight and smaller screen should make it an easy laptop to take on-the-go.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Vega 8: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 8 CUs (= 512 shaders) and a clock of up to 2.100 MHz.
AMD Vega 7: Integrated graphics adapter of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 7 CUs (= 448 shaders) and a clock speed of up to 1,600 MHz.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.
Intel Iris Xe G7 80EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G7 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 80 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Mobile: Mid range laptop graphics card based on the Turing architecture with raytracing features and 2,048 shaders (more than a RTX 2060) but only a small 64 Bit memory bus.

AMD Lucienne (Zen 2, Ryzen 5000):
R7 5700U: A laptop-grade APU featuring eight SMT-enabled Zen 2 cores running at 1.8 GHz to 4.3 GHz and a Vega series graphics adapter with 8 CUs clocked at up to 1,900 MHz.
R5 5500U: A hexa-core APU designed for use in ultra-thin, upper mid-range laptops. The Ryzen features six Zen 2 CPU cores running at 2.1 GHz to 4.0 GHz alongside the Vega 7 graphics adapter (448 unified shaders running at up to 1,800 MHz). One could be forgiven for thinking Ryzen 5 5500U is a renamed Ryzen 5 4500U - which is not the case. Ryzen 5 5500U is most similar to Ryzen 5 4600U, the most noteworthy difference between the two being the faster iGPU model of the former.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-1260P: An upper mid-range Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This 28 W SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. Core i7-1260P's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. This 12th Gen CPU runs at 1.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features. Last but not the least, Core i7-1260P has a built-in 96 EU Iris Xe GPU, not unlike certain 11th Gen Tiger Lake-UP3 processors.
i5-1240P: A mid-range 28 W Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. The i5's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. Core i5-1240P runs at 1.2 GHz to 4.4 GHz; it has a built-in 80 EU Iris Xe GPU and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features.
AMD Cezanne (Zen 3, Ryzen 5000):
R5 5625U: Mobile six core APU with Zen 3 cores clocked at 2.3 to 4.3 GHz and a Vega graphics adapter with 7 CUs clocked at up to 1800 MHz.
Intel Alder Lake-M:
i7-1255U: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 2 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 12 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 1.2 to 4.7 GHz. The TDP is specified at 15 Watt.

75.4%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
