The HP EliteBook 8 G1a is an impressive showcase of what the future of business laptops looks like, one where AI isn’t just a marketing term but an integral part of the local computing experience. Its 50 TOPS NPU, AMD Ryzen AI processor, strong security framework, and intelligent battery management make it a strong contender in the AI PC category. Yet, it’s not without its flaws. Wi-Fi performance is patchy, the audio leaves room for improvement, and the local AI companion app (while innovative) needs more polish. More crucially, the price may limit its appeal to large enterprises and government buyers rather than freelancers, startups, or individual professionals. If HP can refine the pricing to be more competitive, the EliteBook 8 G1a has the potential to lead the charge in AI-enabled mobile productivity. For now, it stands as a powerful, forward-looking laptop that’s just a few steps away from being exceptional.

To conclude, the HP EliteBook 8 G1i looks like an interesting option for those who are considering a compact and lightweight business laptop. The device comes equipped with a premium design and offers a decent display, minus the screen wobbling issue. The performance is up to the mark, and the HP AI Companion application is surely a hit, in my opinion. The backlit keyboard is decent, and the touchpad works fine during the testing time. Moreover, the laptop also delivers strongly on the webcam front, and the Poly Camera Pro is sure to be helpful in making video calls. That said, the battery life could have been better. So, if you are planning for an enterprise-class laptop that provides a good amount of security and comes with smart features, then you can surely consider the HP EliteBook 8 G1i.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon 780M: Integrated graphics card in the Ryzen 7040 mobile series APUs based on the RDNA3 architecture with 12 CUs (= 768 shaders) and a clock speed of up to 3 GHz.
Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):
R7 250: A powerful laptop processor (APU) of the Hawk Point family. This isn't an entirely new APU; instead, the R7 250 is an R7 8840U in disguise. Its eight Zen 4 cores run at 3.3 GHz to 5.1 GHz and are SMT-enabled for a total of 16 processing threads.
Intel Lunar Lake:
Core Ultra 7 268V: A higher-end Lunar Lake family processor. It sports 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.7 GHz and 5.0 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 140V iGPU and 32 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. It should be about as fast as the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-threaded workloads and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
