HP 255 G2

The HP 255 G2 is a low-cost laptop designed for business users, or in other words, a simple office laptop. The HPP 255 G2 is powered by an E1-2100 APU AMD Kabini which is not the best of the bunch as several Intel processor are superior to it, but gives enough for basic usage such as web browsing, text processing and making Skype calls. The 15.6 inch display is nothing to be awed by. The size of the screen is decent, but resolution, brightness and colors are just average.

The keyboard of this device does not have any number pad or keyboard light, but uses a standard layout so familiarizing with the keyboard shouldn't be much of an issue. The Ctrl and Alt are a little smaller than usual, but the keyboard does include several indicators for Caps Lock, Wifi and mute.

Despite its very low price tag, the HP 255 G2 has quite a nice exterior. The black plastic gives it a nice sleek office look while the matte surfaces doesn't make it look cheap. The laptop does come with the basic ports such as 3 USB ports, a headphone jack, but no microphone jack as it has a built in microphone, Ethernet port, HDMI port and a VGA port for older projectors. It also comes with 802.11 (b,g,n) Wi-Fi and 4.0 Bluetooth to give wireless connectivity.

In short, the HP 255 G2 is a laptop made for simple business matters. Despite having lower specifications, the laptop itself runs very well and can fulfill the needs of office work.

70% Review Update HP 255 G2 Notebook | Notebookcheck
Minimal. With the HP 255, HP focuses on private and professional users looking for the cheapest possible work tool. A price of significantly below 400 Euros (~$549) is definitely "cheap." Our review reveals whether the notebook is also convincing.
80% A low-priced laptop that's reasonably capable
Source: Techradar English
HP has clearly aimed low with the 255 G2, but in doing so, has hit the mark. Although its performance isn't great, it's hard to be really critical of this laptop, since it's very well priced and it does exactly what it's intended for. While the low-power processor and fairly limited graphics hardware will definitely struggle with demanding tasks, the inclusion of 4GB of memory ensures it remains perfectly responsive and does a good job running light software.

8W TDP shows how efficient AMD E1-2100 APU is regarding consumption, but also how much it is a weak for some serious work. However, it is possible to surf, watch a movie and do everything else in the scope of regular use, since the integrated Radeon HD 8210 graphics card is much better compared to similar Intel Solutions (between Ivy Bridge and Haswell integrated graphics). The rest of the configuration makes the standard 500GB hard drive and only 2GB of RAM so the rapid upgrade to 4GB is recommended. Laptop comes with no operating system installed, so this should be included in the final price. Although Kabini platform is very important for AMD and has excellent performance, this APU is not sufficient for demanding users who want more than the most basic applications and purposes. The price is affordable for a 15.6" model, so in the budget- friendly category is an excellent choice.
Positive: Good workmanship; decent autonomy; good price. Negative: Not very impressive performance.

Despite the proliferation of affordable Windows machines at this end of the market, HP’s super-cheap Ubuntu machine worth considering. Ubuntu 12.04 of the OS is easy to use, with a slick interface, reasonable software and revised features. If you and your office can accept Ubuntu – and you’re willing to live with this machine’s basic performance – then it’s a decent budget buy.

When it comes to power, battery life and screen quality, the HP 255 G3 is clearly lacking – especially when compared to some of the leading business laptops out there. However, the price is a vital consideration here – for only £199, you're still getting a lot of laptop.

This laptop is probably the most powerful new laptop you can purchase for around £200 (around $350, AU$390) with the A4-5000 giving it the edge on its low-cost rivals. Whether it is the best for you depends on your taste though – the diminutive Asus X200MA wins hands-down when it comes to portability and battery life, plus it has a touchscreen display and a tiny power adaptor.

Design and build quality of the HP 255 G3 are workmanlike, but importantly the main comfort areas of keyboard, trackpad and display are quite usable, if with the usual issues of poor display quality we find at this low price. But for only £200 the HP is more than creditable as a get-you-by budget Windows laptop.

HP 255 G6

The HP 255 G6 is a cost-effective notebook that promises respectable performance. It comes equipped with 7th generation AMD APUs, sizeable display, and other standard features. HP says they built this one for those who love to work on the go. The company describes the design as durable and mobile. At about 24 millimeters in thickness, the HP 255 G6 is not that slim. But the weight is decent, starting at 1.86 kg. The device makes a stable impression with the surface structure modeled after that of a checker plate. The upper side of the base withstands strong pressure, while the lower side can be pressed in easily. The display is held tightly by the hinges and does not twist when it is opened or closed at only one corner. The HP 255 G6 offers a pleasant keyboard. Although the keys are a little small, it was no issue during long typing. A user will like the crisp but not too firm pressure point. The HP notebook is less suitable for quiet environments though. Friends of a pleasant typing noise will get their money's worth with the keyboard, but the sound is always present and can be annoying in noise-sensitive environments. As for the display, the HP 255 G6 is equipped with a TN-LED display, which displays contents with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Although the maximum brightness is just over 200 cd/m², this screen is one of the better models. The TN-LED display is characterized only by a mediocre viewing angle stability. However, only at strong angles from above and below, color changes occur. Viewed from the left and right, screen contents remain relatively unaltered. As for the innards, the HP 255 G6 features seventh generation Accelerated Processing Units (AMD). The processors, which belong to the A6 and E2 families, receive support from up to 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. Integrated AMD Radeon R4 takes care of graphic. It is suitable for simple graphical applications and can also display older games at medium settings. HP says the user should expect the notebook to last almost a full day at work (about seven and half hours). This promises decent performance, although nothing out of the world. For storage, there is a 1 TB 5200 rpm SATA hard disk. At 5,200 rpm, this is considerably slower than comparable devices with SSD. Occasional waiting times due to loading programs must be accepted, but are not unbearable. Among the port options on the offering are two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, an HDMI 1.4b port, and a VGA port. There is also a multi-format memory card reader onboard. The touchpad has multi-touch gestures enabled. A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 adds an extra layer of security. For online collaboration, users get a VGA or HD camera along with a pair of integrated stereo speakers. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Slow start. With the 255 G6, HP offers a very affordable entry-level notebook. Using an AMD processor and a replaceable battery, our test device could be given a buying recommendation. However the moderate system performance and cheap production leave much to be desired.
