It's got the basics. The HP 250 G3 is a 15.6-inch notebook currently priced at just 270 Euros (~$339). Did HP really just slim down their device where there was beef to spare, or did their frugal measures cross the line?

A low-resolution display is the all that mars an otherwise impressive package here. It's rare that you'll get an Intel Core-series processor lurking in a laptop like the HP 250 G4, and that alone means that businesses should at least consider it for workers who undertake certain tasks. It's not the prettiest or lightest 15-inch laptop out there, and users will need to hook it up to an external display for working with multiple applications or browser windows side-by-side.

Those after something flashy may not find an awful lot of appeal in the HP 250 G4. However, it’s one of the best-value, low-cost laptops you can find right now. As well as having a very good CPU for an affordable machine, it has loads of storage, good build quality and plenty of RAM. HP’s upgrades are keenly-priced too. Spend a bit more and you’ll get a surprisingly fast machine with a good-size SSD. You’ll need to spend considerably more to get good screen quality, though. While the display here is practical, poor colour and contrast don’t make it a good fit for an entertainment device.

Cheap and slow. The 6 W Celeron CPU makes for a subpar Windows 10 experience even when equipped with a primary SSD. Quiet operation and long battery life are the main benefits for such a low-power configuration.

HP 250 G6 1XN75EA
The HP 250 G6 1XN75EA is a business-oriented laptop that focuses on mobility. The notebook immediately attracts attention with its simplicity. Its matte light surface perfectly hides fingerprints, and in the process of work a minimum of additional details in the design does not detract from the tasks set. The form of the case is classical, the corners are slightly rounded. The lid and base of the laptop do not slip in the hands, so the HP 250 G6 can easily be moved from place to place, without worrying that it will fall. In contrast to the external surface, the worker is built on a combination of silver and black colors. The frame around the display is dark, it usually provides a webcam lens. In general, due to the predominantly light coloring, the notebook seems larger than it actually is. At 380 x 253 x 24 mm it does not differ much from most average competitors in thickness. However, it is nice to realize that the weight of 1.86 kg will not become a hindrance for business trips and other trips. The matrix in the HP 250 G6 notebook screen is made using VA technology. The visibility of the display is not bad and black color is transmitted uniformly and realistically. However, it does not quite reach the viewing angle of IPS displays. This 15.6-inch matte screen has a good level of contrast and is optimal for a variety of tasks with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. But its brightness of the 250 cd/m² is only enough for comfortable work in the room. The HP 250 G6 (1XN75EA) runs on Windows 10 Pro and is equipped with a fairly productive filling. In the laptop, there is a low-voltage processor called Intel Core i7-7500U. The chip provides two cores, which can simultaneously handle four data streams. Its clock rate can increase from the base frequency of the 2,700 MHz up to 3,500 MHz thanks to the Turbo Boost technology. The Core i7-7500U has enough power for modern tasks, not only for simple office applications and web surfing. This configuration features 8 GB of DDR4-2133 MHz RAM, and this is quite enough. A user can store data on a 256 GB SSD, which differs from the hard disk by a higher speed of operation. For graphics tasks, there is an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 accelerator with DirectX 12 support, no discrete graphics card. The laptop is equipped with a 4-cell lithium-ion battery with a higher capacity of 41 Wh. Besides that, it has two stereo speakers for outputting sound. For the volume, it is enough for a small room, and the sound remains clear at the maximum without wheezing. For wireless networking, the laptop features dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. The HP 250 G6 1XN75EA is 15-inch laptop which is perfect for the regular user who mixes a little bit of gaming, media and work. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

HP 250 G6 2UB93ES
The HP 250 G6 2UB93ES is a 15.6-inch budget laptop targeting entry-level users. As for design, the 250 G6's case is made of plastic. HP finishes the 250 G6 in silver color. It is designed to combine robust design with mobility and affordable features. The HP 250 G6 is equipped with a rock solid Intel Core i3 paired with 8 GB of RAM and a fast SSD. These are very good basis for everyday tasks. While the Core i3 processor will not break any performance records, it provides enough performance for office and internet applications. Better still, the device remains cool and quiet throughout. Besides that, the HP 250 G6 has an SSD with 256 GB of storage space, of which 191 GB are usable after installing Windows 10. It is a pretty good deal for a laptop at this price range. The SSD ensures fast and smooth system performance. It would have been better had HP included a maintenance hatch rather than having to remove the entire base plate for general maintenance and repairs. An Intel HD Graphics 520 handles the 250 G6’s graphics. The GPU can clock up to 900 MHz and supports DirectX 12. The GPU performance could also be improved by enabling dual-channel mode and adding a second identical RAM module. The 250 G6 could be used to play games, but only for games that have low system requirements. The features of the display are a Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and a matte surface, which is great because it will not reflect environmental lighting. However, the TN display has poor viewing angles, which means that the 250 G6’s display is practically unreadable from an off-center angle. The display is only readable outdoors when the sun was not too bright. The 250 G6 has good battery life. The 250 G6 has a longer runtime thanks to its better energy efficiency from the i3 processor and larger battery capacity. The 250 G6 is having a 41 Wh battery capacity which is capable of delivering up to 7 hours of battery life. Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64 Bit is pre-installed on the laptop. For network connectivity, it has Realtek RTL8168 / 8111 Gigabit LAN, Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 3168 (a / b / g / n / ac) and Bluetooth 4.2. As for connectivity, it has a USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 / 3.1 Gen1 ports, a VGA port, an HDMI port, a Kensington Lock, an audio combo port and an SD card reader. The laptop has a DVD writer, which is not commonly equipped with latest laptops. It is good for reading and writing DVDs on the go. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

74.67%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
