There are currently many laptops in the low-medium range in the portable computer market today. This is most likely because there are many casual users out there who would prefer laptops that don't break their banks and can run most day-to-day tasks with the occasional gaming sessions. Hewlett-Packard's latest HP 15-db0045ns is one of these laptops. HP decided to equip their latest laptop with a medium to high range CPU, the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U. This processor comes with four processing cores with eight logical threads. It also has 4 MB of cache and can clock at a frequency range of 2.0 GHz to 3.6 GHz, all thanks for AMD's Turbo Core technology. Casual users who want a laptop for high-processing tasks like video and image editing will find that this laptop will suit their needs nicely. For those who are looking to do a little bit more of gaming on this laptop will be quite disappointed to know that the HP 15-db0045ns only comes equipped with an integrated graphics card, the AMD Radeon RX Vega 8. However, it is worth noting that even though the AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 is an integrated graphics card, it has enough power to play current titles at low to medium settings. This is definitely great news for those who don't care much about playing at high settings. The monitor is a TN panel with a matte finish, so users don't have to worry about any glares. What it lacks in the graphics card department, the HP 15-db0045ns makes it up with a speedy 256 GB SSD instead of a traditional and slower 1 TB of hard disk drive. Another great thing about the HP 15-db0045ns is that it comes with a whopping 12 GB of RAM. The combination of SSD and massive 12 GB RAM will definitely help the laptop to run daily tasks smoothly. As for connectivity and port wise, the HP 15-db0045ns comes equipped with two USB 3.1 ports (for data transfer only), one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI output, one Ethernet port, and one headphone/microphone combo jack. It also has an SD card reader. So, users who want to add more storage can just add an additional SD card in this slot. Other than that, it has the usual dual-band WiFi plus Bluetooth 4.2 combo chip. It is too bad that HP did not include at least one USB Type-C port, like what other manufacturers are now doing. There is also a webcam for video-conferencing, but it is nothing to write home about. Measuring at 22.5 x 376 x 246 mm and weighing at only 1.77 kg, the 15.6-inch HP 15-db0045ns is definitely light enough for portability. While there are other lighter laptops around, it is quite difficult to find a 15.6-inch medium-high range laptop that weighs less. The edges of the body are rounded. The frames around the 15.6-inch screen are medium in size, and on the upper part there is a good camera and microphone, which allows using the laptop for video calls. With its beautiful brushed keyboard and color-matched hinge, the smartly designed HP 15″ laptop looks as good as it performs. The laptop measures at 37.6 x 24.6 x 2.25 cm and weighs at 2.04 kg. The laptop's anti-glare, WLED-backlit, SVA display features FHD resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels. It has good viewing angles and good color rendering. The HP 15-db1011ns is a mid-range 15-inch laptop which is lightweight. A sleek and stylish design makes this eye-catching laptop easy to take anywhere. With its beautiful brushed keyboard and color-matched hinge, the smartly designed HP 15 laptop looks as good as it performs. The laptop is light at only 1.8 kg, which is substantially less than other 15.6-inch that generally exceed 2 kilos. The case is made of plastic, silver on the outside and black inside. The internal fan will allow obtaining adequate temperatures in all conditions of use of the equipment. For hardware specifications, the new AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor has been chosen, belonging to the medium-high range of the low-consumption AMD Picasso platform. This chip achieves a performance comparable to the Intel Core i5-8265U, being suitable to work with a medium-high level of demand, making it suitable for most of the basic tasks. As for the graphic section, the laptop features a dedicated AMD Radeon Vega 8 that basically serves well to edit images and videos occasionally and also play games at medium detail. The HP 15-db1011ns comes very complete in terms of storage, as we will have a 256 GB M.2 NVMe SSD plus a 1 TB hard drive at 5400 RPM. The 8 GB of DDR4 RAM at 2400 MHz occupy the two sockets of the motherboard. This laptop already comes with Windows 10 Home 64-bit installed. HP has chosen a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution TN panel with a matte finish for this HP 15-db1011ns, so the definition will be increased, although the angles of vision will remain quite small. The HDMI 1.4 output is what will allow us to connect this equipment to a monitor, TV or projector. Powering the laptop is the 3 cell battery, which has a capacity of 41 Wh and is integrated into the equipment, being able to reach 5 hours of use of the computer with the medium to low screen brightness. It has fast charging which is an advantage. It is able to charge the battery at 50 % in just 45 minutes. As for connectivity, it has two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, a card reader, an HDMI output, an audio input/output as well as an Ethernet port to connect to the internet via cable. It also has essential WiFi connectivity and Bluetooth connectivity. As a conclusion, the HP 15-db1011ns does not stand out in the design section (beyond its reduced weight). However, it is suitable for those who are looking for a laptop with large storage capacity in the lower price range to work with a medium-high level of demand and take some game regardless of the graphic quality. Compared to the one year older A9-9420, the 9425 has a 100 MHz higher CPU clock speed (base and boost) and a marginally faster iGPU.

Intel Kaby Lake:

i3-7100U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.4 GHz (no Turbo Boost), HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process.
