HMD released the Nokia X6 in China a couple months ago, and followed it up right after with the Nokia X5. The company has finally decided to bring both devices to India, and the global market by association, with the duo being launched today, albeit as the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus—respectively—instead.
There’s nothing new to be learned about the devices. The Nokia 6.1 Plus sports a 5.8-inch FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 636, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, a 16 MP + 5 MP dual rear camera setup (RGB+Monochrome), a 16 MP selfie shooter, and 3060 mAh battery.
It features a USB Type-C port, with Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. There’s also a rear fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm headphone jack keeping enthusiasts happy.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a 5.86-inch HD+ display, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 13 MP + 5 MP dual rear camera setup, an 8 MP front-facing camera, and a 3060 mAh battery. It’s powered by MediaTek’s mid-range Helio P60, the same SoC used on devices like the OPPO F9.
Stay tuned for our in-depth comparison piece on the Helio P60 and the Snapdragon 636.
What really differentiates the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus from the Chinese X6 and X5 is software, as the former are Android One offerings and run on stock Android. As such, they will get security updates for three years, and also receive Android Q when it’s released next year.
Pricing details of the Nokia 5.1 Plus are unknown but the Nokia 6.1 Plus carries an MSRP of INR 15,999, or around US$230.
