UPDATE: Sale over | Grab an Alienware 15 R3 with a GTX 1070 for USD $1450

Teaser
The Nvidia GTX 1070-equipped Alienware 15 R3 is currently on sale at Best Buy for USD $1450, or $350 less than its retail price.

Alienware’s new line of notebooks have been a critical success, and it’s not hard to see why. The devices pack some stellar specs and are built like tanks. However, like most Alienware products, the price is a major barrier to entry for most. That might change for you today; Best Buy is offering the Alienware 15 R3 (i7-7700HQ, GTX 1070), for USD $1450.

The model on sale is equipped with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 (8 GB GDDR5), 16 GB of RAM, a 1 TB mechanical hard drive, and a 128 GB SSD. Users may want to swap out the SSD for something larger, which isn’t too difficult.

We reviewed the Alienware 15 R3 back in February and gave it an 86%. We liked the feature set (which includes macro keys and eye tracking), the copious RGB lights, the relatively good battery life, the straightforward maintenance options, and the overall excellent system performance, among other things. We did find fault with the loud fan noise produced under load and the heavy bulk of the machine, but the Alienware 15 R3 hit quite a few high points during our review period.

This SKU of the Alienware 15 R3 is on sale for $1450, which is $350 below its MSRP (about 20% off). That’s a heck of a deal for a laptop with a GTX 1070. While it’s not the cheapest 1070-equipped notebook out there, it boasts excellent build quality, a good keyboard, and is easy enough to upgrade that it should last quite a while.

Keep in mind that a sale like this usually occurs right before a retailer gets new models in stock, so it might be worth waiting to see what Alienware will pump out next. However, if you’re chomping at the bit for a powerful gaming laptop that will be able to chew through the latest titles for the foreseeable future, you can do a lot worse than the Alienware 15, especially at this price.
