Roland Quandt has delivered yet more details about the Hero 9 Black, GoPro's upcoming replacement for the Hero 8 Black. While the release date of the Hero 9 Black remains a mystery, Quandt has revealed that the camera will cost €479. If this is the case, then the Hero 9 Black will be €49 more expensive than its predecessor. It remains to be seen whether this change will be reflected in other markets, though.
An 11.4% year-on-year increase may seem steep, but recent leaks suggest that GoPro has made several changes from the Hero 8 Black. As we have previously covered, the Hero 9 Black will have a larger camera sensor, a 41% bigger battery and a colour front display. The Hero 9 Black will also be capable of recording videos in up to 5K at 30 FPS, which is another improvement on the Hero 8 Black.
Quandt now reports that the Hero 9 Black will have a 23.6 MP sensor, but it will be limited to 20 MP for photos. 5K videos will be recorded in 5,120 x 2,880 pixels too, which corresponds to a 16:9 aspect ratio. The Hero 9 Black will also have a 2.27-inch main display, which is slightly bigger than the one on the Hero 8 Black. Additionally, the Hero 9 Black will have a 1.4-inch secondary display. Quandt calls this a "preview/status" display, so it may not be a secondary display in the truest of senses.
