GoPro has announced the Hero 9 Black, its latest action camera. The only new product that the company unveiled today, the Hero 9 Black brings multiple new features to the Hero Black range. These upgrades come at a price, namely an increase of US$50 from last year's model. The Hero 9 Black retails for US$449.99, although GoPro is currently offering the camera for US$349.98 with a 1-year subscription to GoPro and a 32 GB micro SD card.
The Hero 9 Black has a 23.6 MP sensor that outputs in up to 20 MP and at 5K/30 FPS. GoPro promises up to 30% longer battery life than the Hero 8 Black, which varies depending on what video mode in which you are shooting. To that end, the Hero 9 Black has a 40% larger battery that comes in at 1,720 mAh. The 23.6 MP sensor also supports HyperSmooth and TimeWarp 3.0.
The camera itself has a 2.27-inch rear display and a 1.4-inch front one that can serve as a live preview for simple framing when taking selfies. Undoubtedly, the inclusion of a front display is one of the biggest changes with the Hero 9 Black, as is the return of the replacement protective lens cover.
The Hero 9 Black is also compatible with the Display Mod, Light Mod and Media Mod. The latter will be available in October, which should eventually be joined by the Lens Mod.
