Entertainment in black and chrome. The Fujitsu LifeBook AH550 is a rather basic multimedia notebook with a minimalistic appearance. The piano black shell and interior go a long way to help in the looks department but it doesn't have the media buttons, large speakers or high-resolution screen options offered by other media-oriented notebooks in this market segment. Fujitsu has come a long way with improving the pricing model of their notebook lineup, but for $749 we might expect to see a small bump in features when all other parts are starter-level Intel components. If this notebook had a slightly higher resolution screen-even as an option-and the 8-cell batteries were standard on entry models it would be a very good desktop-replacement system. Overall, the AH550 is worth checking out if you're looking for a stylish, entry-spec notebook priced under $800.

The chassis is a typical size and, at 2.5kg, is of average weight. However, the 172-minute battery life hampers portability. You'll need to pack the power charger on trips. Still, it's a firm chassis with a particularly solid lid, so can survive a few knocks on the road. The plain black design is very functional, especially compared to the likes of the Medion, but it's also good at hiding smudges and fingerprints.

Price conscious all-rounder. Fujitsu tries to prove that strong multimedia notebooks don't have to cost around 1000 euro right away, with the Lifebook AH530. A new Intel dual core CPU and a mysterious ATI Radeon HD 550v GPU are the ingredients for this purpose.

The $999 Fujitsu LifeBook AH572 offers solid performance, an ultra-bright display, and long battery life for a 15-inch laptop. It all comes down to how much you're willing to pay for a 3D display and video recording, as well as a Blu-ray drive. If you can do without these features, you can pick up a similarly configured ASUS K53 for about $244 less. Overall, the AH572 offers a pretty good 3D experience for the money, but we'd much prefer a single large touchpad to two smaller ones.

Fujitsu: Fujitsu is a Japanese technology group listed on the Nikkei 225 with origins dating back to 1935. Its products and services focus on information technology, telecommunications, semiconductors, networks, computer and communications products and advanced microelectronics.
In 1999, the cooperation with Siemens in the IT sector (servers, notebooks, desktop PCs, etc.) started under the Fujitsu-Siemens brand. 10 years later, this cooperation ended.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Intel HD Graphics (Ivy Bridge): In the mobile Ivy Bridge Celeron and Pentium CPUs integrated processor graphics card. The HD Graphics is the slower, GT1 called, part with less execution units (EUs) and only one texture sampler - compared to the GT2 HD Graphics 4000.
Intel HD Graphics 2000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The 2000 is the slower, internally GT1 called, version with 6 Execution Units (EUs).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v: Slower clocked HD 4650 (based on the same chip) and also Mobility Radeon HD 4630 called graphics card that is still produced in 55nm and supports DirectX 10.1.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650: The Mobility HD 4650 is based on the Desktop 4650 architecture, but features a lower clock rate of memory and core. Depending on the core clock (450-550MHz possible) and the used memory (DDR2, DDR3, GDDR3 with 600-800 MHz possible) the mobile 4650 can show a different performance. The current consumption of the chip alone ranges from 15-25W. Features Avivo HD video features.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor graphics card in the high end Ivy Bridge models. Offers a different clock speed in the different CPU models (ULV to desktop quad core) and therefore a different performance.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M: Lower middle-class graphics card based on the 28 nm GF117 (Fermi).
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Core i3:
330M:
The Core i3-330M is a slower clocked 350M and therefore also lacks the Turbo Boost feature and clocks with max. 2.13 GHz. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
350M:
The Core i3-350M is technically a Core i5-430M without the Turbo Boost overlocking feature. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.26 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
370M: The Core i3-370M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.4 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
Intel Core i5:
450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
3210M: Fast Ivy-Bridge-based dual-core, includes HD 4000 GPU, core clock 2.5 - 3.1 GHz
Intel Pentium:
2020M: Dual-core processor based on the Ivy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. Due to the Pentium brand, many features of the Sandy Bridge core are deactivated.
B960:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. Due to the Pentium brand, many features of the Sandy Bridge core are deactivated.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4702MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.2 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
76.81%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
